Hatteras Jack Fishing report Rodanthe 12-2
Fishing Report
The surf guys have been reporting trout along the beaches, with the nicer ones being around Pea Island, Oregon Inlet, and the northern beaches. There have been some real nice sized sea mullet around Ramps 23 and 34. with reports of quite a few citations. Also in the mix have been plenty of small bluefish, biter sharks, and the occasional drum.
Tip of the Month
Speckled Trout Fishing
It's the time of year when the speckled trout are numerous along the beaches of the Outer Banks. Many anglers brave the elements to target the species. Here are a few tips that might help you increase your catch rate. When it comes to tackle use, light line and light weight or jig heads. Using fluorocarbon leaders will work best for trout. Try using natural colors when it comes to lures and soft baits. If the water clarity isn't great, use darker colors. If the clarity is lighter, use lighter colors. Some ideal soft baits are curly tails, jerk baits, and swimmers. Work these baits slowly through the water. The key is slow for trout. Try to fish around some sort of structure, even where sloughs or channels are cut through sandbars. Dusk and early dawn are good times to try and target speckled trout. Also remember that a a rising and falling tide is ideal compared to dead low and high tide. Good luck!
