Thumbs up Gut Wrench 7-4-08

This was a day were all my preparation met a few moments of opportunity and everything paid off.

left at 4:30..

Had to do a special delivery of ballyhoo to someone in the harbor. He found out at 3am that Wal Mart quit selling ballyhoo thankfully i have connections at that hr...

Headed out to a very very confused ocean, heres a surprise the weatherman blew it.
Slowly headed south,53 miles later we dropped lines around 7:45 drag baits till 10:24 before first bite,2 small dolphin, whew atleast no skunk..man i was getting worried..

then we troll somemore and somemore amd somemore with nothing to show..not looking good, during this time i found a rip/weedline in 280ft,i stay with it picked a few dolphin here and there nothing great but i refuse to leave, marked a bait ball still no stick fish?(remember do not leave fish to find fish,it has taken me a while to learn this)

finally i turn back south along the weedline its starting to really get organized and we hit a real nice patch...bam,5 lines at once....2 are real sweet and pulling a good amount of line, after about 30 mins of jocking around from side to side ,changing rods etc,the chaos is over 5 dolphin in the boat.nice considering i had a very green crew(but a hell of a mate)..

2 of the bulls are in the 30's,real nice.

the sad thing is we didn't have enough lines for all the fish, there were about 10 that came out to hit the spread,by the time it was over and i got back to the spot, they had left and the rip/weedline was getting blown apart.

really a good day considering what most are doing here.

if any lure was hot.the small blue/pink islander had most of the hook ups.
12 dolphin
2 cudas
1floating blk drum
1 tasty watermelon

all fish hooked were landed,no lost fish, that was simply amazing.

Nice report Gut Wrench. 14 for 14 is incredible, especially considering they were dolphins and cudas!
I saw that same black drum today 40 miles off Carolina inlet. Not a single critter on it. 4 days from Charleston to Wilmington by gulf stream is about right, isn't it?
