Inshore:
A continued weather pattern of below normal temperatures has kept fishing the lowcountry a little on the frigid side, though we finally seem to have a break coming over the next few days. Some of the local guides and hardcore fisherman have still slipped out the past week or so, and despite the conditions there has been still some solid reports coming back in. Reds are being seen in very large schools right now, sometimes 100-150fish strong, along shallow water mud flats. A good sunny day is certainly preferred for this type of fishing, but it is still very feasible on overcast days as well. Be patient when searching the flats for schooling reds this tiem of year, you may search 3 or 4 flats before you find the fish but once you find them you will be into fantastic numbers to sight cast to. Throw Gulp! jerkshads, ZMAN streakz tipped with Pro-Cure scent, mud minnows, or cut baits for best success. Sheepshead continue to provide consistent action, with the best reports coming in from the Jetties and nearshore reefs (i.e. R8 reef). With a several week long shortage in fiddler crabs for bait locally right now, it is the perfect time to be trying your hand at using clams and oysters for the convicts.
Offshore:
Wind. Yep, we have had plenty of that. The past weekend provided the first oppurtunity in a while for the offshore guys to get out, and the majority of the reports constituted of good catches of sea bass along live bottom in 55-80ft, as well some respectable reports of sheepshead from the nearshore reefs.
