Extreme Measures 1 foot to 80 fathoms report

With the Barta tournament coming up and slow times at work, I headed south last week.

Caught up with Capt. Brian of Extreme Measures and headed to the deep on Wed. aboard his 25 Contender.

NOAA swung and missed, and the 5-10 variable ended up being every bit of 20.

We trolled 4 dink baits and two dredges and set out to get a piece of the sailfish bite.

A few early morning squalls and the sloppy conditions made it rather sporty, but the contender handled it well.

After finding a nice change/rip we caught a bunch dolphin from chicken to small gaffer size.

We had one sail show up on the green side of a break, but he pulled off thanks to a camera falling and hitting the throttles. 15knots doesn't exactly help the hook up ratio.

The Contender ate up the slop on the way home and like usual I spent a long time cleaning fish. We were the high hook for the waterfront once again!

Before saying goodbyes we checked the weather for Thursday and decided a drum trip would make more sense then going back to the blue.

Bill, Brian, and I hopped aboard the contender nice and early, and headed off to catch some fresh bait. No big Shad(menhaden) showed themselves so we headed into a few creeks to net some mullet, and look for some peanut bunker.

With a few casts into the sunrise we had the bait we needed and headed to the first spot of the day.

The NE breeze proved to be just enough to have the drum feeding well and at the second spot we started getting into them with regularity.

The simple circle hook rigs and a cut mullet or live peanut bunker worked wonders and Bill was the first to get a fish to the boat.

After 8-10 fish the Navy did their best to stop the bite with a few fly by's and high G turns over the location. I think they wanted us to move, or maybe just see what kind of bait we were using. Either way it was an impressive show of good old US firepower and made me happy to know they're on our team.

We ended the day with around 30 released drum from 18-35"
and one speck.

Another great day in the books with Capt. Brian at the helm.

Awesome report and Great fishing!
Nice to see The Beast on his "small" boat...
If even Capt. B is having trouble finding those pogies this year no wonder we can't spot them!
