Davidson River Outfitters report 2-7
Fishing Date: 02-07-2012
Hard to believe it's February, almost feels like late March. With the warm weather, we have seen some bugs on the water. Caddis and Black Stones have been the dry fly go to. In the warmer days you can get away with a Stimulator in the riffles. Dropping a Tungsten P.Tail, or a Soft Hackle Hares Ear with a #6 shot will be a great idea.
The Hatchery: Is still fishing great with Copper Johns, Griffiths Gnats, RS2 Black and Olive, Johnny Flash, Gun Metal Midge Olive, Two Tone Zebra, Black Sprout Midge. 18-24. 5X to 7X.
The Private Waters: The Davidson and West Fork have been pretty good with great water flows and 46 Deg water temps. Look out for fish sipping Black Stones in the slicks, and eating Gurdle Bugs with a Soft Hackle behind it in the head of the runs. As the water gets warmer, throw some streamers around. Bunnies, Wooly Buggars, and Sheila Sculpins.
Small Streams: Stimulators, and Tungsten Droppers. Black Caddis, Trudes, Wulffs, Pheasant Tails, Grn. Copper Johns, Prince Nymphs.
Tuckaseegee and Watauga: Great when both generators are not running. Olives, Soft Hackles, Worms and Eggs. Streamers under a 150 sink tip if the water gets a bit high.
If none of this works? Try the bait below.
