[Fishing Report]

Fishing Report 9-21-2011

Fall has started to arrive in the mountains, the water temps are in the low to mid 60's. We have not started to see the fall hatches of Caddis and Slate Drakes and BWO's yet but we are expecting them anytime. Fish around the hatchery are still on the midge bite, some fish are still being caught on terrestrials. Fish on the main river are being caught on small soft hackle pheasant tails, and partridge and peacock. Remember that the Delayed Harvest streams will reopen under catch and release regulations and be restocked starting October 1st.

The Davidson: Terrestrials like Kevin's Caterpillar, and small ant patterns are producing fish. You can also catch a lot of fish on midges like Craven's Juju Bee, Egan's Rainbow Warrior, and for the dry fly enthusiast the Sprout Midge has been hard to beat. Also don't forget the soft hackles.

Blue Lines: (Avery's, Looking Glass, and other wild waters) Small attractor dries, like a Tennessee Wulff, Small Stimulator, Don's Pet and the Adam's Variant are producing fish, for an added bonus drop a small bead head off the back of the dry.

Davidson Trophy Water: Fishing very well with soft hackles and small bead head nymphs.

Delayed Harvest: The DH streams will reopen under catch and release regulations on October 1st. However most of the streams will be restocked between the 3-6th of October.

Smallmouth Bass: Better get your last fix in on the warm days. Clouser's, Crayfish and other subsurface flies will provide the most action.
