Commercial trawlers slaughtering thousands of striped bass off the Outer Banks

This just sucks. Someone should go to jail or shot for doing something like this. And the commercial people wonder why us recreational guys don't like them! Where in the hell is the Marine Fisheries when you need them.

I'm sure before it's all said and done, the only fish any of us will be allowed to eat here in the US will be imported Talapia. Point the Finger Pie anyone?

ridiculous to set a trawl net to be allowed to only keep 50 striped bass.
they cull the catch and throw thousands of dead rock overboard.
call nc marine fisheries outlaw trawl nets. ok for commercial hook and line or maybe a gill net but a trawler setting on a school that he can only keep fifty is ridiculous.

Don't forget--some conservation committee asked for a Daily # of fish allotment for the fisherman instead of a daily poundage. I am sure it sounded good at first ---"Hey, we are only allowing commercial fisherman take 50 a day per boat"---well of course they are going to cull through for the absolute largest 50 to weigh in (don't shoot me here, I don't think the culling is right either) but this could have been all solved with just a total poundage quota for the season--catch it all up in a day or a few weeks--but when its done its done--then you would not have this mess.
