challenge: write up the ribbon fish
Just returned from pier fishing with my children in Caswell, N.C. We were there with my Dad, their grandad – they were learning to fish from him just like I did as a kid. I haven't been in a while and boy have things changed. We caught toad fish, ribbon fish, small shark and one small blue – in other words, a bunch of bait. (We also saw over a dozen newly hatched sea turtles swimming under the pier, the kids and I just LOVED that!)
I had to wiki the ribbon fish when I got home. One of you sportsfishermen are going to have to set things straight on Wikipedia. Check out their entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribbon_fish In the meantime, can anyone explain what in the world is going on?!? I never saw anything like a ribbon fish or a toad fish for that matter when I was a kid. Where did these things come from and what brought them to the NC coast? What you actually caught was a CUTLASSFISH. They are called ribbonfish because they resemble the ribbonfish.
wiki the cutlassfish and you'll see the fish you caught. Just one of those things.
