Trophy Hunter Fishing Report, Manteo, NC, 9-17-10

    Yesterday's Meat! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 09/16/10

We have options! Our group for yesteray was hoping to find some meat to take home. We went to the south and had action all day. We caught quite a few blackfin tuna. They are small but they eat good and provide fast action. We also found a good catch of dolphin. Several gaffers mixed were mixed in. In the afternoon we found a few yellowfins. They were mixed up in sizes but the largest was around 50 pounds. Again the boats to the north had good white marlin fishing. Thanks and hope everyone enjoyed the trip!

White Marlin at Oregon Inlet! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 09/16/10

Just a quick photo at the dock during some of the great white marlin fishing the fleet has been having. Good fishing in several places. It has been a treat having such consistent action day after day. Thanks!

Andy Gets his Blue Marlin! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 09/16/10

Saturday and Sunday were both booked with one goal in mind. Andy, pictured in the middle of the photo, has been hoping for a blue marlin and he wanted to fish for one. He has booked me for the last six years hoping for a blue marlin. Each year we catch whites and sails but no blue marlin. This year he said he would trade 25 whites for one blue marlin bite. Although we did not make the trade on purpose things would work out in our favor. We got wind of a good fishing report from the day before and we headed out in hopes of finding more incredible marlin fishing. The fishing was good but the fleet of boats never really got on the main body of whites. It gave us a little more time to search around and this 400 pound blue marlin found us. Andy did a great job and we shortly released the fish. We also released three whites and a spear fish for the day. Thanks for the determination and hope the wait was worth it. Congratulations!

End of Last Week! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 09/16/10

September represents a month where we have a lot to offer. Usually, if you come looking for action we can provide a quality trip. Some years we have good tuna fishing and some yaers the marlin rule the show. So far in 2010 it has definitely been a year to remember the marlin fishing. The good news for the meat groups has been that most days offer the opportunity to catch some dolphin. The end of last week we had our last couple of trips where we tried to do both. Thursday things worked out good. We caught a couple of whites and found a good catch of dolphin. Friday the dolphin came a little harder. We did catch 30 or so and two whites but not quite what we were hoping for. As luck would have it, the dolphin fishing and blackfin tuna action picked up on the same day and gave the fleet a chance to split up. Both areas have offered good catches and the white marlin fishing is still very good. The photo is of our catch on Saturday. We caught a blue marlin, three whites, and a spear fish. Thanks!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Fishing has been pretty good in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area during the past few days. A good number of puppy drum have been caught along with some sea mullet, blues, spot, and croaker. Some pompano are being landed in the Salvo area as well as in the Avon area. Pier catches have been much the same with a fair number of spanish mackerel mixed in with the others. Off shore fishing is spotty with a good catch of tuna one day and maybe a few the next. Some sheepshead are still hanging around the pilings of the Bonner Bridge. Some speckled trout are being caught in the sound.
