The wind finally changed around to the North and it was great. Nice and cool and the seas calmed down. Tom Payne and all his nephews were busy all day catching something. Blackfin tuna, dolphin, amberjack, and a sailfish.

Fishing Report 7/25
It was real windy again today out of the southwest. There was not much reported from the beaches except some blues and spanish at the inlet early this morning. The wind is expected to switch out of the north tomorrow which should help.
No boats fished because of the windy conditions.

It's great swimming weather, and we are expecting a slight cool-off in the next day or so with the usual scattered afternoon showers! ................. The winds are predicted to go to NNE for a few hours today, but shift to ESE by late this evening! ............ Come on down and enjoy our SLIGHTLY COOLER than YOUR HOUSE weather! ........... North Carolina Fishing Report 7-27-10
Central District
For the week ending July 25
Ocean: Anglers caught plenty of Spanish mackerel near shore, with a few bluefish mixed in. Offshore, anglers saw larger, but fewer, dolphins landed, along with lots of wahoos, a few kings and a couple barracuda. The head boats had nice catches of vermillion snapper, gag grouper, black sea bass, gray triggerfish and white grunts.
Inlets/Sounds/Bays: Private boat fishing was slow, with many small flounder caught, as well as a few croakers and speckled trout. Pigfish, pinfish, and small black sea bass were in the mix, as well, but the strong winds took a toll. Some nice sheepsheads were taken along the bridge pilings, as well as some puppy drum in the creeks.
Piers/Shore: Again, the turbidity slowed shore fishing, although pinfish and pigfish were still biting at the piers. Juvenile sharks were caught in some abundance, as well. Anglers occasionally reeled in bluefish, Spanish mackerel, spot and croakers, as well as skate and rays. Some pinfish, pigfish, croakers and small sharks were also landed on the shore. Fishermen caught some nice pompano, in the two-pound range, in the breakers, mostly from the piers. King fishermen caught Spanish, kings and an occasional tarpon.

North Carolina State Northern District Fishing Report 7-27-10
Northern District
For the week ending July 25
Ocean: Offshore anglers continued to experience the most consistent fishing of all anglers with nice catches of yellowfin, blackfin, bigeye, and skipjack tuna. These anglers caught their limits of dolphin most of the time, and they caught little tunny, Atlantic bonito, wahoos, and king mackerel with much less frequency. Billfish catches lessened as compared to previous weeks. Ocracoke and Hatteras anglers caught a variety of bottom fish, including vermillion and red snapper, snowy, gag, and yellowedge grouper, barrelfish, blackbelly rosefish, gray triggerfish and blueline tilefish. Midrange activity was uneventful with the exception of a few striped bass and red drum caught around 8 to 10 miles offshore. Artificial reefs provided moderate amounts of black drum, sheepsheads, tautogs, and spadefish. Near-shore success has been the same the past two months with bluefish and Spanish mackerel caught in high-volume, short-term sessions. Croaker, spot, and kingfish were caught on a regular basis but were tough to access in the near-shore surf zone. Assorted others fish were caught in low amounts.
Inlets/Sounds/Bays: Anglers saw much improved keeper ratios with their flounder and spotted seatrout catches. Oregon Inlet yielded the bulk of the flounder, mostly caught in the shallow waters near the islands and land masses. Spotted seatrout, along with some very large kingfish (sea mullet), were caught throughout the area. Anglers continued to find Roanoke Sound the hot spot for trout in the early morning and just before dark. Anglers at Manns Harbor reported a modest increase in striped bass catches.
Piers/Shore: Anglers had success rates similar to that of the near-shore boaters. Spot, croaker, and kingfish that were not accessible to boaters proved easy prey for land-based anglers, who filled their coolers with very little effort. Pigfish, pinfish, weakfish, flounder, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, black, red, and banded drum, spadefish, banded rudderfish, pompano, puffers, needlefish, skate and assorted rays and sharks were caught in varying amounts. Pier-based cobia catches improved once again, mostly in the nighttime hours.
