Ocean Isle Fishing Center Fishing Report 7-26-10
"Seafood Market Stocked!" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/24/10
Capt. Rickey has been hard at it on the fishing report scene so today I will give him a slight reprieve and give you my story/report from a trip offshore yesterday. I left the dock yesterday morning around 7am with a green yet eager crew with a mission of stocking the Fishmongers seafood market here at the fishing center with a fresh catch. The weather has kept us on the dock for the past week so it was time to toughen up and go get em'. The plan was to jig up bait and start heading offshore to the deep water where hopefully we would find cleaner water and hungry fish. The swell was aggravating but we took our time (at 30knots), jigged up a few baits, and made it to our first stop in 95 feet. Grouper and Black Sea Bass are highly desirable table fare and best sellers at Fishmongers so that was the objective. Whatever else got in our way would be ok too. As soon as I pulled the throttles back we were greeted by herd of hungry amberjack. While in my opinion AJ's are great eat (if you know the areas to avoid) they are not typically a species we offer at Fishmongers so I was content to watch them circle the boat. However, what I thought was my inexperienced crew surprised me and quickly sprang into action and before I knew it both Alex and Jack were doubled over hanging onto 40lb freight trains. While I rigged up for the target species over the next 20 minutes my crew had already busted into full sweats and did some population control on the AJ's. For the rest of the day it was much of the same. That is somebody always had a bent rod. Jack and Alex pounded on the large knothead sea bass, and pink snappers and I tangled with those pesky grouper. I was very encouraged with the grouper fishing as at almost every stop I made the grouper were present. To me this means the large population has moved in off the break in 200' to the bottom structure in 90 to 110'. In addition to hitting the grouper fairly hard, I had a surprise visit from a monster Genuine Red Snapper. These are great eating fish but fishery regulations has it that they are not to be harvested at this time. I did battle with the snapper, took a few pics, and then as tears rolled down my cheek I released her overboard. Overall we had a fun day of bottom fishing and accomplished the objective of bringing in the fresh catch to Fishmongers. If anyone is down our way and is after truly fresh and local seafood come see us at Fishmongers located downstairs at OIFC. We have fresh shrimp straight off the boat, bay scallops, hand picked lump crab meat, and of course whatever is biting a hook and line that day.

Doghouse Charters Fishing Report 7-26-10
Offshore action.

Jason Dixon, from Dixon Custom Painting, his friends, and crew, had a great day with us this past week. Fishing was slow, and we ended the day with some fun gulfstream action. We hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth. Shack
Dolphin and wahoo.

Cahrlene Wood, her sons, and her friends had another great day with us. A nice wahoo, plenty of dolphin, and plenty of smiles. Our offshore action has been great. Come charter fishing in North Carolina. From the gulfstream, to the sounds, we have plenty of fishing action to provide.
An awesome fishing day!

What a great inshore fishing charter. We killed the spanish mackeral, and the bluefish. We had a large group on our charter, and there was plenty of action for everyone. This was a wedding group, and this went over better with the bride-to-be than the traditional batchelor party.
A mixed bag of inshore fish.

Including bluefish, spanish mackeral, dolphin, albacore, and a big barracuda. We covered all of our bases on this inshore trip. Shack
A big group of charter fishing family.

We had a full house, and we had a great catch of fish on this inshore half day. The evening trip is the best, and we sent these folks home with a full bag of meat. What a beautiful sunset over the sound, and a great day on the Outer Banks.
Mahi-Mahi.

We always call them dolphin, but we live in a politically correct world these days. Jason Southall and his family got beat up. We had bad squalls all day that would not clear out, and we all got a beating. We caught some fish, pulled off a marlin, and then momma said enough was enough. What a trooper they were. We're gonna make up for it next year, Jason. Come get you some fall yellowfin action.
Outer Banks Gulfstream action!

Plenty of action it was fishing this day. Dolphin, yellowfin tuna, and jacks. Our crew had a pile of meat to show for their great fishing action. The OBX is good.
Nice yellowfin tuna, and great action.

Plenty of action is what we sell here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Our offshore gulfstream has produced plenty of fishing action for our charters. Thank you, Mike Marra. Come see us this fall.
Dolphin

Doc and his crew didn't do much with us last week. One dolphin was it. Like I always say, we print the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm glad it was slow for the other couple boats that fished that day. We'll get 'em next year, Doc. Come see us this Nov., and catch some yellowfin tuna. Shack
A great evening trip on the Outer Banks

Another great inshore trip for the books. Our evening fishing trips have produced some really good catches, and our charters have been great.
Yellowfin tuna, and blue marlin.

Ricky Nuckles wanted to catch something to eat, and then he wanted to catch a marlin. We had our chance at the blue marlin, but we missed him. Offshore charter fishing has been good this year on the Outer Banks. I'm glad Ricky got to see the bite. Pretty awesome.
Inshore action.

Patty Pettiford made arrangements for her crew to do some inshore, half day fishing while here. They chose the best option...... an evening trip. It was good fishing, and the crew was a pleasure. Thank you, Patty, for sending your crew to see us.
A cool dip in the Gulfstream.

The boys ended their day with a up-close-and-in-person view of the Gulfstream.
Yellowfin tuna, and white marlin.

Steve Johnson and his crew wanted to try and catch a fresh tuna for momma to cook while they were here, and the fellas wanted to catch a marlin. We were successful on both counts. What a beautiful day it was.
Outer Banks fishing action.

Matt McDermott, and his wild family came to visit us again this year, and they took another inshore evening charter trip with us. The fishing was once again awesome, and the company was great. Our inshore fishing action has been awesome, and our evening trips have been especially good. Come charter a trip while you are here visiting the OBX.
Inshore charter action on the Outer Banks.

Henry Cotrotsios and his family had a great charter day with us. The inshore action on bluefish was great. This is one family that truly enjoyed their charter trip while visiting the OBX. Come see us.
Inshore action.

Jim Mauro, and his crowd showing off their catch of inshore fish. Our half day inshore charters are a hit with visitors and locals alike.

Fishing Report 7/24
There were spanish and blues at the inlet last night and this morning. Sea mullet, pompano, and small flounder on the south beach. Some blues and spanish at the point. The hard southwest wind today kind of slowed fishing down a little but a few were caught.
The inshore boats had specks, grays and blues.
Offshore There was good blackfin tuna fishing along with a few dolphin and wahoo. One sail was released out of Hatteras Harbor.

Hatteras Jack Fishing Report 7-26-10
Sunday, July 25, 2010 - 12:03 pm:
The southwest wind continues with extreme heat. Best bet is to try the sound in the evening for puppy drum and bluefish.
The forecast is expecting to see the wind switch to the NE for tomorrow which should greatly improve the conditions and see more activity in the surf.
