Ocean Isle Fishing Center Fishing Report 7-20-10

    "Inshore Report" | Speckulator - 22' | 07/19/10

I mentioned in my last report that we were in the "dog days" of summer. Well, since then, the dog has bitten us. Hot water, thunderstorms, and a stiff, unrelenting southwest blow have made the past week on the inshore grounds challenging to say the least. The wind has really stirred the water in many locations, which has resulted in my chasing around the cleanest water i can find in hopes of finding so cooperative fish living there. However, all has not been lost, as we have managed to catch fish on every trip, and have had couple of good catches thrown in to keep things on the positive side. The flounder fishing has remained consistent, and I had a couple trips this week where we caught some really good numbers of fish. There have been quite a few throwback size fish around, but at the same time there have been a few nice ones in the same spots, so you never know. One cast might yield a 13 incher and the next cast produce a 3lber. Also, on another positive note, the redfishing has been solid the past couple of days, and we have managed to catch some nice ones ranging from 16-18 inchers to a couple of 30inch brutes as well. If we can get a break from the wind for a few days, we should have some awesome fishing, so keep your fingers crossed.

    "WIND" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/18/10

That one word summarizes the fishing activity, or lack thereof in the OIB area. We may try to sneak out the 1st of the week and attempt some spanish fishing and maybe stretch it a few miles out and try some kings.

The Barta Tournament is over, and thanks to the Coast Guard, Navy and Marines a near disaster was averted when the "Reel Time", owned by Rick Sykes of Durham, N.C. began taking on water and sank.

Inshore, captain Jeff B. and Toby Russ fished the Shallotte River yesterday, but between the wind and the current they gave it up. Dr. Jeff Wallen fished the jetties yesterday also, but the wind was such that he hung it up. Captain Kyle had a charter today and had some success. I am sure he'll do a report on his trip later.

Below are pictures sent to me by Paul McIntyre of a mahi they caught last week while fishing near Christina's Ledge aboard their boat "Tiger Rag". Pictured are Mike and Jake Matulia. Also in the picture is Paul's dad, 79 yr. old "Grandpa Jack" McIntyre who still loves to fish. Thanks for the pictures Paul.

Check out the Tournament Section of the web site for updates on the OIFC Rodeo prize money. It continues to grow.

That about wraps up the news from the OIFC.

Oregon Inlet Fishing Center Fishing Report 7-21-10

    FISHING-REPORT-07-20-10
    by bill

windy weather kept almost all of the offshore boats in port. Inshore boats had a good morning on tailor bluefish and spanish mackerel. In the afternoon more tailor bluefish and spanish mackeral were caught but not as many. One of the open boats had very good red drum fishing in the afternoon. Twenty were caught. All but five were releaed. Among the releases were drum over the size limit. Hardly any were below the size limit. The anglers were Karen and Paul Graham, Teresa Willhelm, and Susan Robinson. All were from Virginia. There are not many fish more beautiful than these or better eating.

Frisco Rod and Gun Fishing Report 7-21-10

    Fishing Report 07/20
The weather was not the best for fishing today. SW winds were blowing 15 to 25 with gust over 30 mph. We had some strong thunder storms this morning before 5 am. The rest of the day was partly cloudy.

I had some spotty reports of Sea Mullet, Blues, Flounder, Croaker, Spot, and Spanish Macks. All of the reports were really scattered from Hatteras to Avon.

We did not get any inshore are offshore reports.

It continues to blow here on the Outer Banks. We have been booked and if it was Octopber with good tuna fishing and "6 beer heads" (you know we love you) we would have tried it but in July it's family groups. And we don't beat the crap out of the Family!!
Stay tuned and we'll let you know what the wind is doing - and say a prayer why dontcha?! Tight Lines!

    Tuesday Fishing Report
More sea mullet today from ramps 43 and 44. They are being caught on blood worms. They are also catching some spot and croaker. The point is supposed to be open to ORV traffic tomorrow!! Down at Hatteras Inlet the blue fish bit again today on stingsilvers. Up in the Avon area blue fish and sea mullet were caught.
