Hatteras Harbor Marina Fishing Report 7-17-10
"Jeremy's 1st King" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/16/10
I had the privilege of photographing 14 yr. old Jeremy Myer's 1st King yesterday. Jeremy was fishing with his dad, Butch near the 90's in 50 ft of water when this King hit a pogey on a downrigger set at 15 ft. The fish put up one heck of a fight as he was foul hooked near the gill by 2 of the #4 trebbles Jeremy was using.
Butch and Jeremy, both of Black Mountain, N.C. had yet to officially name their boat, but had been calling it the "Last Dollar". Now that they've caught this 1st King it would be bad luck to change what they've been calling it, so "Last Dollar" it is.
Thank ya'll for thinking enough of the OIFC to let us take this picture. We love to see young people get involved in the family sport of sal water fishing.

""Finally some RED!" " | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/16/10
A nice flounder on the first cast today, followed by some small ones. A very rude boater ran aground on the very oyster bar we were fishing. People still amaze me with their lack of skill to be considerate of others on the water! Anyway, we moved on to find better ground...after several locations only producing a pinfish bite, we found them...Finally, a redfish unloaded on a live shrimp, then another redfish pounded another shrimp...Pinfish started again on the shrimp, so I switched to mullet and yet another nice redfish pounded the bait. We ended the trip on that note, since we were about 30 minutes over our trip time. Early start again tomorrow! See ya on the water!

""Heatstroke"" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/15/10
Inshore the water has gotten hot. I believe some of the fish are suffering from a little heatstroke. I suspect many of our fish are moving to the surf zone and nearshore wrecks. The problem with this is the wind is blowing keeping small boats from making the run. Furthermore, the wind and rain has stirred the water a bit. O.K. enough excuses...Despite the conditions if you work hard enough a few fish are still cooperating inshore. We did manage to land 4 trout and 2 flounder today. Artificials landed 3 trout and 1 flounder. Live bait landed 1 trout and 1 flounder...go figure that artificials are out fishing live bait. The fish are sluggish, so slow it down. See ya on the water!

Fishing Report 7/16
The last couple of days beach fishing has been slow on the Frisco beach. A hard southwest wind blew lots of grass in and messed up the fishing. Avon has been reporting sea mullet and croaker. The Hatteras beach has been opened all the way to the inlet and the rip is now fishable. I think we will start hearing of spanish and blues from the rip. Now if we can get the point open things will be almost back to normal.
The inshore boats had good catches of speckled trout which is the first good report of specks that I have heard this year. Gray trout and blues were also caught.
It got real choppy offshore but the best wahoo bite of the year was reported. The dolphin bite slowed a little but lots of sailfish were released.

Fish n Fool Fishing Report 7-17-10
ULY 15 ALLDAY- BLUEFISH, AMBERJACK & RED DRUM / Posted by: Bobby Smith / 07/16/10
We had a terrific day on the Fish n Fool today with excellent fishing & a great crew.We started off this morning with Devin & Chet ,hitting the taylor blues. This was for both for some live baits,as well as for the table.
We then ran to a couple of wrecks but came up empty handed until hitting our last bit of structure. There we busted the amberjack good, landing all our crew could handle while pulling off 4 or 5 others. We then ran to another area & set out our trolling spread but never had a bite.
After getting back closer to the beach i recieved an excellent bit of info from one of my buddies,RED DRUM! I ran the Fish n Fool to his location & we began our Drum chase. They were moving fast & not feeding well. After awhile we figured out something had them spooked. It ended up being the Shark! There were two or three large sharks underneath of them, keeping them very nervous. We did manage to keep after them & landed 6-8 nice fish before heading in. A huge thanks gang,we really enjoyed our day with you two! Bobby
