Ocean Isle Fishing Center Fishing Report 7-12-10
"Inshore Report" | Speckulator - 22' | 07/11/10
It seems like summer is literally flying by, and we are suddenly in the "dog-days" of summer, which means the inshore criiters are transitioning into their hot weather, hot water kind of patterns. The flounder fishing remains consistent, but the fish have been very mixed size wise, so you just have to keep grinding through the little ones to find the good ones. That being said though, we have caught some really nice fish this week with several fish in the 3lb range, a couple of 4s, and a 5lber, so there are some nice ones out there. One thing that is happening with the flounder is that the seem to being headed for deeper waters as they usually do this time of year, as the inlets have been producing quite well recently, and there have started to be some fish on the nearshore reefs and wrecks. Also, there are still some nice redfish around that are willing to bite, both in the backwaters and around the inlets as well. The trout have also made a few appearances lately, but as is typical with them this time of year, you tend to catch them one day and not the next, but even if they dont bite, some of your norma trout spots might be worth checking.

Today's Report
Posted by Captain Rom on July 11, 2010 at 20:44:10

Today was another beautiful day on the ocean with a light north wind. A good friend Brad Scott and his sons were pretty busy most of the day catching all these fish. We also jumped off a sail first thing in the morning.

I have been fishing the Hatteras Grand Slam tournament last couple of days with Mark Sipes, Michael Scott, Lee Cannady (my former mate), and Scott Lang. We have seen a few billfish but were not very lucky in catching them. We did manage to catch the biggest dolphin (42lbs) that Michael caught.

There were not too many fish caught on the south beach but the ones that were were quality fish. Pompano to 3 lbs. and some nice sea mullet were reported. There was a pretty good run of blues below ramp 55.
The inshore boats had spanish and blues while offshore the dolphin fishing was good, wahoo were scattered, and there were some pretty good catches of blackfin.

"Right Fish Wrong Time" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/13/10
Check out this picture of a king Richard Boles caught while fishing for the Got-Em=On.

"Got Em On" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/12/10
The Got-Em-On King Classic is in the books. Congratulations to everyone who placed. Special congrats to Austin who had the heaviest fish in the Jr. Angler Division! Follow this kink for the results.
In the picture below are Austin Aycock, Edward Julian, and Alex Mercer with their 33.60 lb king..

""Flounder Pounding"" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/12/10
Took a father and son out today for there first saltwater adventure. Caught trout and flounder early this morning on artificials. Stephen the son beat his Dad up pretty bad with the artificial fishing. We switched to live bait and Mr. Apt put the hammer down on the flounder. It took Stephen a little while to get the technique down before gaining some ground back on his Dad. We caught 17 flounder, 3 trout, and 2 bluefish, making for a pretty good day on the water. We almost claimed a jet skier today, but I stuck a horn in his ear and he got the message. See ya on the water!

"Banner Day" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/12/10
The OIFC Charters had a banner day today. They both caught a bunch of kings mostly at the Shark Hole and the 90's. Where were these kings this weekend when we were searching for them during the Got-Em-On King Classic? Captains Chris Dew and Chris Dawson said the seas were flat and that the kings turned their noses up at pogies and hit exclusively on frozen cigar minnows.
These pictures are of the Seay's, Eric, Nathan, Darren and David of Oakridge Tenn.

"Lesson Learned" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/12/10
Captain William Parker, of the "Hound Dog" learned his lesson well! Last week he caught a 40.6 lb king. William wasn't in the OIFC Rodeo. He since signed up and promptly went out and caught this 24 lb king which put him smack in the lead in the king division. Austin Aycock was moved to 2nd with his 20.4 lb king, and Jeff Beck joined the fray Sunday by weighing in a 19.1 lb king.
Jeff's king was caught during the Got-Em-On King Classic. Captain Jeff weighed a 28.35 lb king at the tournament, but held on to the 19.1 lb'r to be weighed in at the OIFC for the Rodeo..Good thinking for both William and Jeff
-Capt. Rickey Beck

"Shark Hole" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/12/10
Captains Jeff Williamson and Chris Eckert struck gold at the Shark Hole today. Using naked pogies with a green bead they made a half day charter very happy.
On the charter, from Charlottesville, Va. were, from left to right, Allison drAlmeida, holding the big king, Haley Horbaly, Connor Williamson, Andrew Horbaly and in the background is dad Bill Horbaly.

Today's Report
Posted by Captain Rom on July 12, 2010 at 21:02:40

Another great day on the ocean with a light east wind. Seas were calm and the marlin bite was pretty good today. Russell Herring and his family had a good time catching some fish but I think the highlight for young Julie was the dolphin watching. Russell caught a sail and a white and 8 year old Jack caught his first white marlin. Congratulations.
