Carolina Billfish Classic 2011 Press Release
CHARLESTON, SC— The Second Annual Carolina Billfish Classic, the state’s first multi-port billfishing tournament and third leg of the SC Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series, will be held at Toler’s Cove Marina, June 22- 25, 2011.
The tournament is pleased to call Toler’s Cove Marina its new home and Tournament Headquarters. With the anticipated return of Georgetown Landing Marina as a satellite location, anglers will benefit from an additional home port and weigh-in location option. Any Blue Marlin brought to the docks will continue to be weighed in at the Tournament Headquarters at Toler’s Cove. Last year, for the Inaugural tournament, boat owners, anglers, the Governor’s Cup Series staff and board members were excited to have the addition of this multi-port tournament in the Series which allowed increased opportunity and accessibility to participate for out-of-state anglers as well as home-state boats.
In 2010, the CBC introduced an Under 40’ Division in the Governor’s Cup Series. Proven to be a success, as almost 20% of the boats participating fell into this category. $10,000 is awarded to the boat with the most Governor's Cup points in that division.
In addition to being a part of the five-tournament Governor’s Cup Series, the Classic is also a sanctioned World Billfish Series and IGFA tournament.
Once again, the Classic will be home to the South Carolina Memorial Reef dinner and auction, Friday, June 24th during the tournament, at Goldbug Island. The group has set a goal of raising $500,000 to help place significant structure on the Charleston Deep Reef site, located approximately 52 miles southeast of Charleston in 350 to 450 feet of water. As the first deepwater artificial reef off the South Carolina coast, the Reef will help conservation, providing enjoyment for many generations to come, and all while honoring some of the community’s avid anglers. While the event is being held in conjunction with the Carolina Billfish Classic, it is not limited to fishermen. It is open to the general public.
