AMERICUS, Ga.— The Americus Sumter Payroll Development Authority (ASPDA) and Sak Marine Co. LLC have entered an agreement for Caravelle Powerboats to manufacture boats in Sumter County, according to a recent press release from ASPDA. Eugene Sak and Duane Sak of Florence, Ala., took over Caravelle on Nov. 9.

Caravelle aims to employ more than 150 people in the area.

David Garriga, executive director of ASPDA, commented in the release, “We are grateful that the Saks recognize the skilled workforce available to them in Americus and are equally grateful for the willingness of the community to bring them in as a business partner.”

Eugene Sak, co-owner of Sak Marine, commented, “The skillful efforts, personal outreach, and the agreement offered by ASPDA were key factors in our decision-making process, but the quality of life in Americus and the educational structure offered by South Georgia Technical College was certainly not overlooked either.” Co-Owner Duane Sak added, “Community support was strong and decisive and the 'get-it-done' mentality was appreciated."
