01-15-2011: Unfortunately there is not very much going on here due to the cold water and high winds that we have been experiencing lately. There are a few stripers showing up around the Cape Lookouot shoals and some red drum at the rock jetties. Just some information for those who have not heard. both recreational and commercial fishing for speckled trout is closed. DMF has not said when they will be re-opening the speckled trout fisheries. Al;so for those of you that are interested. SAMFC has proposed a new rule for wahoo. Instead of the old regulations that allowed 2 wahoo per day per person, it is now proposing to change that rule to 2 wahoo per boat instead of 2 wahoo per person. There is going to be a meeting in New Bern NC on Monday January the 24th at the Hilton on the river from 3 pm-7 pm to discuss and get public imput. Bottomf ishing for snapper and grouper as well as recreatiional and commercial catch shares will be discussed as well. If you can attend the meeting you might want to come by and voice your opinion. Currently there are no facts or data to support such a decrease in the bag limits on wahoo. I currently sit on the Dolphin/Wahoo advisory panel and no one on our panel that I know of has any knowledge of the need for this change nor were we ever contacted to be informed that SAMFC was considering these changes.
