"The OIFC has issued an APB for one of our own" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 07/09/10
If you spend any time here at the OIFC, there is a familiar face that you undoubtably know. One of our own, Doppler is missing. Last night, he was scared by the storm that hit Ocean Isle and was outside. He broke out of his back yard and has been missing since. If you are in the area of Bent Tree, on the mainland side, please keep an eye out for him. He is a Large Golden Retriever with a short summer haircut. If you have seen him please call the OIFC at 910-575-3474 and let us know. Thanks for all of your help and support.

"This Week Inshore" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/09/10
This week has been extremely productive inshore, especially flounder fishing. Several "tourists", meaning those not familiar with the local fishing spots, as opposed to" terrorists" who drive mini vans with out of state license plates and give obscene hand gestures in traffic, reported catching flounder, sometimes called fluke at the Sunset Beach Bridge.
Jeff Wallen fished the weekend and reported a double slam on trout Friday. Saturday, he and his son Josh caught 7 keeper flounder before 11 am as well as a 6 lb red. Some were caught behind Sunset Beach, while others were caught in the Shallotte Inlet. The fish were caught on pogies. The ones he and Josh are holding in the pictures were released.
Dr Wallen sits on a committee for the S.C. DNR. He said that biologists have told him that the flounder over 16 " are females, and the bigger the flounder the more eggs they produce and the more often they produce them. Thusly releasing them improves the flounder fishery.
The othe picture is of Captain Jeff Williamson's charterf rom yesterday. Not too shabby for a half day trip.

"Junior Angler" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/09/10
Yesterday the OIFC had the privilege to weigh this 13.4 lb king. It was caught by 7 yr. old Lilly Keel of Belmont, N.C. Lilly, aboard the "Marlin Darlin", was on her first fishing trip. Accompanying Lilly were Grace and Griffin Keel, Hannah, Henry and George Keel, as well as Pete Fickling.
Congratulations Miss Lilly. You and other young folks like you are the future of salt water fishing.

"Four Mile Sail" | OIFC 1- 36' | 07/09/10
Captain Zach and Captain Steele fished aboard the 36 ft Contender, the "Get Floor'd" along with Grant Boyd and Garrett Fiddynent, both hailing from Atlanta, Ga., Eldon Peters from the home of the UNC Tar Heels, Chapel Hill, N.C. and Garry Spencer from the home of the American Idol star Kelly Pickler, Albemarle, N.C.
Garrett was fly fishing with a pogey for spanish while four miles off shore when a sail fish showed up. He kept feeding the pogey until the sail finally couldn't stand it anymore and hit it. After a short fight the sail was along side the "Get Floor'd" Garrett has some nice pictures which he will forward. One of the pictures below is of Garrett taking the customary plunge off the front of the "Get Floor'd" for catching his 1st sail.
After the excitement of the sail fish the crew headed out about 10 more miles where they caught kings and 3 cobia. The biggest cobia was 33 lbs and took 2 hrs of fighting to get aboard. They also had a 4th, but he eluded the fish box. The cobia were caught in the area of the 65 ft Hole.
This dynamic duo proved they can catch quality fish, they also showed their dedication by extending the charter 2 extra hrs. Quality fishing and dedication are only a couple of the attributes of the OIFC Charter Captains.
Congratulations guys on a great day fishing. I could tell by the excitement on the dock that everyone had a ball!

Today's Report
Posted by Captain Rom on July 09, 2010 at 04:59:59
Thank goodness for a little northeast wind today that cooled things down a little. The dolphins were kind of scarce today but the ones we caught were nice ones. Pat caught his first white marlin that really put on a good show. All the boys got a workout on some hungry amberjacks that we released.
Hilton Head Island Fishing Off The Hook Charters
7/7-7/8 Pic's Of The Day!
The past few days have been great for some variety of species of several
species of nice sharks, jacks and redfish and even trippletail.
Here are a few proud catches of my clients with some nice fish!
7-09-10
The day started out with heavy rain but turned out to be pretty calm for our anglers, John and Bob from Va Beach. I would not call today's fishing great, although a couple of boats did make fine catches. One had seven white marlin. Another caught two bigeye's and a wahoo. There were about 15 total marlin caught by the fleet today and fewer tuna. We located good dolphin habitat but not many bailers. We did catch eight bonitos around some birds but never hooked a tuna. We did land a couple of nice gaffers, and missed a sailfish. We saw plenty of good marks on the fishfinder that did not produce a bite....maybe they'll be hungry tomorrow.
Thanks for checking in.

Timing! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 07/09/10
In our world timing is everything. Yesterday we were looking tuna and there were a few caught. Most of the action was early. Once we were in the area we hooked three yellowfins and were off to a good start. Two of them got off and the third was eaten by a blue marlin before we could get him in. The fight was one and we chased the nice blue for a couple of hours. The fish was released and we estimated it to be about 475 - 500 pounds. A good catch but unfortunately the tuna bites was winding down by the time we had caught the fish. Later in the day we found a couple of nice gaffers before calling it off early so our group could catcha plane in Norfolk. Thanks and hope everyone enjoyed the fish!
White Marlin! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 07/09/10
