Bottom fishing Oregon Inlet 4/18

Had a make up party 4/18 for bottom fishing... we set out to find a nice size swell in the inlet.... We took two over the bow... the first one catapulted me and the passengers in the air... I lost my fish box lid and one fellow got a small cut on his head....the life raft came out of the bracket and almost went overboard....then the next one broke over the bow just like the first one.... I goosed her and we were out of that mess and in nice water....I've been in and out of this inlet hundreds of times, but I guess I didn't time it right today... sometimes you can't be cautious enough! Any how we got out and had a great day on the tiles with a limit and some big seabass... Couple of sharks and two big bluefish off the bottom in 275 ft of water...What beautiful day after we got over the bar in the inlet...Headed back in a little early to find the the inlet still rough and white all away across the bar.. As I got closer I saw something unusual off to the starboard... It was a capsized boat, about a 26 footer with two people hanging on for dear life... I called the Coasties as I went over to pluck them off the boat..they were just on the ocean side of the bar from where the waves were turning over. We managed to get them both aboard and went on in...The boats owner said they realized it was to rough and tried to turn around when a wave came over the side and capsized them.... no injuries, but they lost a brand new boat....The guy wanted to know how much it was going to cost to recover his boat? .... I told him not to worry about his boat...... Just be glad he and his buddy were alive!
We transfered them to the coasties when we got in the inlet and that was it for our exciting day.

He got left out on that trip. One of the other boats had some problems and it was spur of the moment, so I use the other boats mate... Geoff did great on Monday on a half day and I'm really looking forward to fishing with him this year.

Cool Bottom Fishing OI 4/18

Great seein you Fri. Inlet was fine Saturday. We went south (off :Hatteras)to chase the Blue Marlin sitings but decided to bottom drop after couple of hrs.

We found Tiles, snowy, Black sea bass, vermillion, jacks and two mystery bites that never made it to the surface.
(You know the kind of tug o war you wish for)

Maybe moes sunday before we head home?

Ron,
I heard about your adventure as well... damn what a day. What kind of boat was that cc? Glad everyone made it through . We ran south today after a real late start and managed a few dolphin. Slow day. I think I need to get into this bottom fishing deal a little more often.
