11-6-11 ...... SUNDAY ...... The BOTTOM FEEDERS are still here! ......

It's been quite windy around here for the past 24 hours or so; the 20-35 mph NE winds have been relentless starting on FRIDAY evening. ............. It's much calmer now, and the good FALL FISHING continues! ............. PUPPY DRUM, BLACK DRUM, SEA MULLET, SPOTS, and POMPANO have all been landed through this windy (and wet) period! .......... Congratulations to TIM STEEDLY (New Bern, NC)--5 lb. 6 oz. PUPPY DRUM .............. ACTION JACKSON (Kinston, NC)--COOLER of FISH .............. JOHNNIE 'RED' (Fuquay-Varina, NC)--3 lb. 6 oz. BLACK DRUM ............... BILL LUDWIG (Swansboro, NC)--2 lb. 3 oz. SPECKLED TROUT (it's great to see BILL fishing again!) ............ BOBBY BAIN (Rocky Mount, NC)--1 lb. 7 oz. SEA MULLET ............. PORDIS WADE (Goldsboro, NC)--4 lb. 11 oz. PUPPY DRUM .............. HAZEL REED (Kinston, NC)--COOLER of FISH ............. The water temperature has dropped to 61* (it's going down fast now!), and this is accounting for the influx of DRUM and TROUT feeding at the shore or in the shallows! .............. I can only wish that we had the end of the pier back already; usually this is the best time to get out to the end and catch SEA MULLET! ............. They are being picked up at our temporary end right now, so it's not a total loss! ............. Speaking about the pier, we will begin working on the rebuild soon, and plan to have it complete by March 1st, 2012! ............... The 2012 BIP SEASON PASSES are now available, and you can get a key to fish (or just hang out) thru the winter months! ............. The 2012 passes can be purchased at the pierhouse anytime before we close; SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 27th! ................ I received this note today and wanted to share it with everyone: "Last Saturday a boat capsized a few miles off Atlantic beach. 5 men were on the boat and my uncle, Joe Dan Phillips, was the only one that didn't survive. He was on the boat with his son and grandson, who sadly witnessed him pass away during the tragedy. He loved to fish and frequented Bogue Inlet Pier for the last couple of decades. I am 26, and when I was 8, he took me fishing for the first time, at Bogue Inlet Pier, and I've been hooked on fishing ever since. I have passed on the tradition by bringing my wife and kids fishing on the pier a couple times a year when we make it down there from Raleigh. His service was in Smithfield, where he also lived, and was held on Thursday." signed Paul Altstaetter ............... We remember Mr. Phillips; he was a familiar face here at the pier for a LONG time! .......... Our condolences to his family and friends; he will be missed! ................ Thank you all for visiting our site; we hope that it has been a good source of information! ............ SEE YOU SOON! ........... MIKE STANLEY
