Bogue inlet fishing pier fishing report April 22, 2012
4-22-12 ...... SUNDAY ...... BLACKFIN on the PIER! ......
After 41 years here at the pier, I never thought I would see this! ............. MAURILLO MARQUEZ (Cary, NC) landed a 33"cl -- 21 lb. 12 oz. BLACK FIN TUNA on a PLUG! ........... Maurillo caught it on a Shimano STELLA 5000 with 20 lb. test line and a RED HEAD/WHITE BODY GOTCHA PLUG! ............. It is not unusual to see a BONITA; and ALBACORE are fairly common, but to see a school of BLACKFIN TUNA running along the pier is RARE! .......... After consulting with our NCDMF Officers, it was concluded that there are not any rules regarding BLACKFIN; however; there would be if Blackfins frequented the pier more often! ...... Highly unlikely! ............ This season has been (and probably will continue to be) one GOOD and especially UNUSUAL one! .............. Warm winter water temperatures have moved fish toward shore that would not necessary ever see the immediate coast! ............ The BLUEFISH, BLOWFISH, and SPANISH MACKEREL are making for a good day! ............. The current WATER TEMPERATURE has risen to 69*! ........ Could KING MACKEREL be far away? ............. Come on down! .............. (Bring your rain suit!) ............ MIKE STANLEY

We have seen some nice SEA MULLET, GRAY TROUT, BLACK DRUM, POMPANO (looks like s good season for them!), BLOWFISH, SPANISH MACKEREL, and BLUEFISH! ........... We also lost a COBIA but it was only 30"!! ........... Congratulations to CLIFF JONES (Kinston, NC)--6 lb. 11 oz. BLACK DRUM .............. PAUL BEARD (Fayetteville, NC)--2 lb. 9 oz. POMPANO ............. RUSS FULLER Jr. (New Bern, NC)--1 lb. 12 oz. SPANISH MACKEREL ............. JOE IDZIAK (Raleigh, NC)--1 lb. 10 oz. GRAY TROUT ................ KEN PODE (Emerald Isle, NC)--1 lb. 9 oz. & 1 lb. 3 oz. POMPANO ............... FRAN IDZIAK (Raleigh, NC)--13 oz. SEA MULLET .............. and NICHOLAS GUYETTE (Walpole, MA)--SEA MULLET .................. The WATER TEMPERATURE is still 67*, and we should have a decent day for fishing today! .......... Watch out for tonight and tomorrow, as we are predicted to receive a lot of rain and winds (SUNDAY) ............. LOTS of GOOD FISHING this week ......... COME ON DOWN! ............ MIKE STANLEY
4-19-12 ...... THURSDAY ...... STILL GETTIN' EM' !! ......
The WATER TEMPERATURE has risen to a respectable 65* (thanks Dr. Bogus [ ncoif.com ]) and we are still seeing SEA MULLET, BLOWFISH, POMPANO, BLUEFISH, a few GRAY TROUT, and FLOUNDER! ............ With a slight cool down for the past day or so and some much needed rain overnight, things will be back to normal SPRING conditions for the next few days! ............ this coming weekend will produce some scattered showers, so be sure to bring a raincoat for the occasion! ............. Congratulations to RUSSELL PACE (Millburn, NJ)--2 lb. 10 oz. POMPANO ............. ERIC STAVLO (Jacksonville, NC)--COOLER of SEA MULLET ............ NUI VINSON (Jacksonville, NC)--1 lb. 12 oz. GRAY TROUT ............... RUSSELL PACE (Millburn, NJ)--1 lb. 6 oz. SEA MULLET ............. ROSCOE WHITLEY (Lucama, NC)--1 lb. 5 oz. SEA MULLET .............. LOU PACE (Stella, NC)--1 lb. 5 oz. SEA MULLET .............CARL MOBLEY (Kinston, NC)--1 lb. 3 oz. SEA MULLET ............. and GERALDINE WHITLEY (Lucama, NC)--1 lb. 1 oz. SEA MULLET! .............. We are really itching to see how the NEW END is going to work with the SPANISH MACKEREL and KING MACKEREL sections! ............. Only a few weeks left until we have the really FUN FISH! .............. Our friend Brent Quates wanted to remind all of our KING FISHERMEN to be on the lookout for the big BULL RAYS cruising by the pier It seems that they always have a few nice sized COBIA swimming around them picking up any scraps! ............. I remember diving WR 13 many years ago, and seeing exactly what he is talking about! ........ I also saw about a 1/2 dozen 4' REMORA (pilot fish) swimming for those scraps, too! .............. So come on down and get some SERIOUS FISHING in! .......... SEE YOU SOON! .............. MIKE STANLEY
