Atlantic Beach Area & Merry Christmas
We at Chasin Tails Outdoors want to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God bless you and your families this Holiday Season.
Well, the fishing has slowed a bit since we've had some cold weather before winter even got here. The "HOT" spot for catching fish right now would be the Cape Lookout Rock Jetty. In the last few days there has been good numbers of Redfish out there mixed in with some 2 to 3lbs Speckled Trout. I talked to one customer that told me he was catching Black Drum there also. There have been some 6 to 8lbs Gator Trout being caught at night now at the jetty too. You have to pick the right night and have the right gear to be fishing at night in the winter. If something goes wrong you don’t have much time before you could be in a very big mess with the COLD-water temperatures. For the daytime fishing the hot baits have been Berkley Gulp Pearl White, Live Mud Minnows and Mirrolures. At night on the jetty, the go to lure is a Mirrolure in dark colors NightStaker and Purple Demon is a good choice.
The bite at Radio Island Rock Jetty has slow a bit but they are still getting some Speckled Trout at low tide. The Berkley Gulp White Swimming Mullet has a been the hot bait over there. Gales Creek, Broad Creek and School House Creek all have been producing some fish, Live Mud Minnows, Mirrolure 17MR & 18MR and Berkley Gulp have been working well in the back of the creeks. There has been some great Black Sea Bass action off the beach 15 to 20 miles on the ledges and reefs. In the winter months the bigger fish seem to be around out there, Squid fished on a bottom rig is the best way to catch the bass.
