That smile says it all. Had a half day with Baron and his son Brandon this morning. Ocean conditions were perfect and the fishing wasn't too bad either. Went trolling for Spanish and kings, which usually is pretty fast paced and will keep a kid interested.

Went to the liberty ship and started out with a triple header of small kings. Brandon caught two of the three which were his first King Mackerel. Now, it's kinda hard to tell a kid that he has to throw back his first King, but they were 1/2" too short and back they went. I went on to explain to Brandon why we have to put the small ones back for the future of fishing and that we would catch some more and he seemed to understand.

Finally, we got one that was a keeper and boy was he excited. Then the Spanish Mackerel decided to wake up and start biting. We had double and triple hookups all morning long and Brandon was having a ball. Keep plenty of fish for them to take home for supper and both Brandon and Baron went home with a life time of memories. Good job Brandon and congratulations on your first King Mackerel. (p.s. Brandon, don't tell everybody that those small kings will also eat a straw)

Took the skiff out this morning with John aboard hoping to find some shallow water reds. The weather was a little uncertain and the reds were scarce, but I finally managed to get one to eat my favorite plastic lure, the D.O.A. shad tail.

Since the reds weren't cooperating, we decided to see what the ocean looked like and it was absolutely beautiful. Decided to troll for some Spanish Mackerel and soon the reels were screaming. First we got into the bluefish, triple header. Then we started picking up the Spanish, with blues still mixed in. Lots of fun on light spinning tackle. All fish were caught using Yozuri deep diving plugs, gold clark spoons and a Mackey D's special. Water temps in the low 70's.

Keep enough for a nice supper and released the rest. Don't forget to practice catch and release and only keep what you can consume.

    Tight lines!!!

    Capt. Brent
