1st trip to Salvo,Need help.

Guys I just found out that I might be heading to Salvo the end of next month or begininng of Oct.
Since I have never been to the area I was hoping some of you could give me a heads up on what the fishing is like then. Species,Charters,Surf,Offshore,Captains, whatever. There is no preferences as of now.
If this has been covered already (and knowing message boards I think it has) than I apologize for asking again but honestly it is easier to ask than to search through hundreds of posts.
I really appreciate any replies, thanks guys.

If it's October, big Drum in the surf..although I don't know if those Park-Service idiots have cut off access to the point in Hatteras Village. If you are looking for a good charter captain, Rom Whitaker of the "Release" I believe, or Buddy Hooper on the "Hatteras Fever II". They are both in Hatteras Harbor Marina, they are the best around. about 40 mins. south of Salvo.

September is a great month for white marlin out of Oregan Inlet. Try to get Arch Brasher on the Pelican.......if you cant get him there are alot of other great charter captians like the Carolinian out of Oregan Inlet
http://www.oregon-inlet.com it is about 25 miles north of Salvo.
Try Devin on the Poacher if you want to fish in shore

Frank and Frans is a great tackle shop in Avon 10 miles south and they can hook you up with the surf fishing.

Good luck

The old giant drum will be blowing back out the inlets from the sounds. The surfing can be epic in the fall. Bring a spring suit jic. Remember between salvo waves avon buxton hatteras and frisco you can always find an offshore wind for glassy swell.

we own a house in salvo and fish out of Pirates cove. Another vote for the Pelican or Qualifier out of Oregon Inlet. if you are trailering a boat there is a small ramp behing the America gas station in Rodanthe and fish teh sound. or trailer to Oregon Inlet and fish the bridge and near shore. There is a couple of AR's within sight of the bridge as well. if you are lucky you can surf fish under the bridge if the beach access is open. Also there is the rodanthe pier you can fish from.

good luck!

Sorry for the delay but computer issues have kept me away.

The flights are already booked and the car is reserved at Norfolk. I hear it's a great drive down from there.
Wll be staying with family so that is arranged too.
So no boat will be trailered and I won't be able to bring my own gear. Looks like it will have to be a charter of some kind but still unsure what. I would love to catch species I can't get here at home so no rockfish/stripers or bluefish. I have already had the pleasure of red drum.

Took a peek at Capt Jay's site and saw there could be a shot at wahoo, billfish or tuna, if I remember correctly. Those could be fun.
I'll keep researching but would appreciate if anyone else wants to chime in with any other info or must do/see items while i'm in the area.

Mike,
the drive down is a breeze. Just watch your speed, after all the Gov. has issued a lot of budget cuts lately, ha-ha, not really funny, so they need the extra money.

I run a charter out of Pirates Cove, the "Marauder" and I advertise on here also. I mainly focus on nearshore fishing, half, three quarter and full days. We do it all, from on the beach to 30 plus miles out.
Lots of Amberjacks on the nearshore wrecks right now, which provides some awesome stand up battles on light tackle.
The Trigger fishing on the nearshore wrecks has been outstanding also.
Check out my site at www.maraudersportfishing.com and let me know if anything is of interest to you.

Have a safe trip,
Capt. Troy
