Purchasing Manager

If you are qualified or know somebody who is, please contact me, I am looking for a friend.

A boat builder is looking for a Purchasing Manager. This person will be solely responsible for sourcing parts and materials and must have a minimum of five years experience in purchasing marine products for boats in excess of 60'. We are looking for someone who knows the industry very well and can keep us on the leading edge of new products, especially as it relates to electronics.

The Purchasing Manager will provide tactical leadership within the Company in developing, executing and managing the purchasing processes and activities for all material vendors to ensure delivered low total cost of ownership and to manage vendor performance which meets or exceeds the business requirements in service, quality, and innovation. The ideal candidate will be a senior-level candidate who is desires professional growth.

The successful candidate will have management responsibility for purchasing, inventory control, shipping & receiving functions. They will:

Execute the Company procurement strategy, manage materials buying, and oversee materials spend.
Develop and drive execution of purchasing strategies in close cooperation with global commodity managers, global plant management, and planning functions.
Develop material specifications using VOC (Voice of the Customer) and product management inputs which meet process capabilities within the site operations.
Drive material cost-out projects and continuously identify new material cost out savings opportunities (especially electronics)
Improve purchasing processes and apply latest thinking in the areas of cost modeling, supplier relationship development, and total cost of ownership.
Coordinate with commodity managers in developing, negotiating, executing terms and conditions in supply contracts.
Develop Lean applications in supply chain to improve process flow, pull systems, and level loading to reduce waste and improve working capital and achieve inventory objectives.
Required Experience and Education:

5-10 years successful procurement experience as a Purchasing Manager or Sr. Buyer in a company building boats in excess of 60'
Proven track record of driving cost reduction through purchasing of materials and collaboration with suppliers
Experience in developing a world-class purchasing organization
Practical knowledge of leading edge purchasing and supply chain strategies
Minimum 4 year undergraduate degree and CPM strongly preferred
Strong negotiation and analytical skills
Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience in Lean initiatives including sales and operations planning (S&OP), product rationalization, value stream mapping, voice of the customer (VOC), and quality function deployment (QFD)
Extensive experience using an ERP/MRP system to plan and control inventory and shop-floor operations
High-energy, flexible, self-starter, hands-on, comfortable working with little or no administrative support.
Compensation is $75-$85K, location is Pacific NW.
