    Pay Scale?

Heres a question for the peanut gallery, but a honest question all the same.

Since I posted my resume, I have had a few job offers, the offers are for a deckhand positions, most of the jobs are on the east coast. What is a realistic pay range on the east coast?

What should a qualified crew member be paid per week on a Florida based 61ft viking, that is going to be fishing the circuit this summer?

Just curious, what the norm is, because the numbers seem to be a lot different then Hawaii pay.

5% of winnings and 500-600 a week if your chartering... all depends on how good you are

    ouch

Wow, that sounds wicked low. Not to mention way below what has been offered, I was just worried I was cutting my self short, if that is really the norm I guess not. Lets say the boat is all private, what should you get a week then?

700 - 1000 per week depending on what your duties are and 15 percent of tournament winnings.

Good googamooga - Do you own a half day charter boat operation?

Maybe if you included a co. car and full health benefits. otherwise you would make more money cleaning fish.

This was debated on another site to nausium... What about TIPS? The masses felt as if 15-20% were the "norm". at $1200 to $2000 per charter, that equates to an additional $180 - $400 per trip... plus pay...plus tourny winnings... Sounds like a good gig to mate if the boat is running 4 trips a week.

    $600 - $1000 in pay
    $720 - $1200 in tips

    per week

    plus winnings...

    Not a bad gig...

    $5,676.00 to $9,460.00 per month

    Is this a realistic number????

I ALWAYS WONDER WHY A MATE SHOULD MAKE LESS THAN A CAPTAIN....

IS IT THE 6 DAY CRASH COURSE THE CAPTAIN TAKES TO GET HIS TICKET?

A MATE MUST EAT LESS....AND HIS CLOTHES NEVER GETS RUINED IN A MAHI BLOODBATH

HE NEVER SUFFERS CUTS....NEVER GETS ANY INFECTIONS

HE NEVER HAS TO CLEANS SHIT STAINS FROM THE RIGS TOILET

I GUESS I CAN SEE WHY WE SHOULD MAKE LESS

Actually my mate makes more than me because he's getting the freelance rate and I pass all the tips to him. We swap turns washing the boat and cleaning the fish... I do all the rig making before during and after trips. I'm the lucky one who gets to do the fun stuff like work on the engines, pumps, ac units, electronics, wiring, etc., paperwork, booking, when we're not fishing.
Each boat is different. When I have a mate he's a valuable asset who doesn't work for me. He works with me.

    K-man,

1,000 a week min, if it's a private gig. Around 10% of the trip rate on a charter boat (per trip). Either way min. 10% of tourn. winnings. If there is a 2nd durring tourn. their % should come equally out of evryones, i.e. capt, mate, bossman. Having a 2nd benifits everyone. Also if you are one up in places like the DR and Isla it is common for the boat to pay for a local to help clean the boat at the end of the day (Private boat). If you turn down any gigs give me a call, I'm still looking for a spring/summer gig. I think that charter gig in Hatteras that I told you about is still open if you are interested.

    Terry
