Tips

I have recieved them both ways, but typically the crew tips me directly, though if I am busy cleaning fish or something they will give to the captain and that is not a problem for me. I have a lot of trust for him and have a hard time believing that he would short me. I guess there is a trust factor that needs to be established in your situation. Me personally if I didnt trust the captain I wouldnt work for him.

Sounds like you need to find another job if you can't trust your Capt.

how about you go and confront the captain about it. dont make a fight out of it, simply express your concern and ask him to explain the discrepency. if he is skimming your tips with out your knowledge, thats a issue you definitely need to address with him. My advice, sit down with the captain and have a civilized and fair discussion with him. If he wont explain his position to you and wants to be a dick, jump ship or make sure you get the tip before he does.

I agree with what you said, but even still I think I would try to find a spot on another boat and discuss the tipping situation with the future captian.

yup. thats one thing i've learned, EVERYTHING is to be discussed and decided upon before even setting foot on the boat. Try to get it in writing if at all possible. As soon as you notice an issue, address it and come to a solution before it becomes a big problem

Trust is Everything,

I can't speak for the Charter Community, as I've never charter fished. But I've owned a few commercial rig's for a good number of year's, worked alot of crew's. In my own opinion it work's both way's. I don't care how good a deckhand was ,if I couldn't trust him it was "pack your rag's". A crew has to be able to trust the Capt completely. If you don't ,you already know the answer. If he'll steal from you ,he'll lie to you, neither are good. Frank

As for the fact that he took ur money that's bull shit if u can't trust him with ur money how can u trust him with ur life its in his hands when ur wireing a big fish u need to find a new rig. As for my operation if they give me the tip I count it and make sure its enough then give it to my mate and if they give it to him I ask hin how much it was so if its not I would get him more its the capt job to make sure that the mates get enough

IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT BEING SHORT CVHANGED THEN YOU ARE WORKING FOR THE WRONG MAN....IF HE WILL SHORT CHANGE YOUR TIP THEN HE WILL CERTAINLY SHORT CHANGE YOU WHEN IT COMES TO FINDING FISH!

ON THE OTHER HAND.....WHEN ONE GOES TO A RESTAURANT AND EATS DINNER....DOES ONE PAY THE RESTARAUNT MANGER THE TIP? SHIT NO THEY DON'T SO CHARTER CLIENTS SHOULD ALWAYS SHOW THE MATE THEY APPRECIATE HIS HARD WORK IF IN FACT HE WORKED HIS ASS OFF AND HAND HIM HIS TIP DIRECTLY

EVERY TIME MY TIP HAS BEEN HANDED TO MY CAPTAIN TO BE RELAYED BACK TO ME IT WAS BIG ANYWAY...

I TRUST MY CAPTAIN.......MY LIFE DEPENDS ON HIM IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE
