Hawaiian tuna lingo(breaking bag, or dropping dog) for using a square lead with a hole drilled through it as a weight to get part two of this equation down to where your tunas are. The hole in the lead has a short piece of cord tied thru the hole as well as your 15-20 foot leader. . The other end of the cord is attached to a small (hand sized pouch that you fill with "palu"(chum, anchovies etc.). You stuff this pouch full with palu, lay it on the lead and coil your leader, with bait on hook, 15 feet or so neatly on the pouch, wrap your handline around the whole package and make a slip knot around the whole deal. then begin wrapping the whole package 30 to 40 times in one direction around one side and then 30-40around the other until you get to your desired depth. Now when you mark your tunas, drop the package in the water the weight allows the handline to unroll as it sinks, when all unraveled, give the handline a sharp yank and the slipknot pulls out, releasing the palu bag to open(deep water chum slick) and your hooked bait is right in the middle of it. Sounds complicated but see someone do itt once and it's easy. Hope that helps.......Good luck Kenton, I may be seeing ya over there soon. Tell Harlan I said whassup!!

Capt. Kenton,
I thought is was reading an old job description, I'd lay on a man lookin' to work for me. When I commercial fished it was wide-open or nothing. What do you mean go in because of the weather? That's when they bite!!! I expected alot out of my crew, but they expected alot out of me too! I did my best every trip to give it to them. No place for slacker's. Lay it on the line, no BS, this job ain't for little girl's ,I love it. I could dig it my friend but my body is already worn out. Workin' 4 clock's before you lay down will make an old man out of ya, did it for year's. Sound's like a great experience either way. Best of Luck to you and your crew.Frank,SeaPower
That definitely sounds pretty awesome!! To bad I have the whole wife and army thing in the way! I certainly would look into it if I was single and about to get out!!
BUT...don't make it sound like u r the man in Kona or something,,,I have spoken woth everyone there including the guy who owns the boat u r :running",,, You are NOT a badass, and i promise you, just because you live there doesnt mean shit,,,,you r looking for crew here, because, and I have asked, NO ONE ELSE WILL WORK WITH YOU! If u have any questions....call me so I can laugh with Harlan about ur comm. experience
never said I was the man, I said I was looking for crew. which is true. I dont have the most time here that is true. But, I do go hard, and I can make a pay check. There is no bragging going on what so ever. I just want people to know the reality of going ever week. And I will call you.
Harlen has Kenton running his boat, so he can't think to badly of him. I think the main reason the dock rats out there might not want to fish for him is that he dosn't spend much time at the dock. Not enough party time for some people. I seem to remember someone trashing you on inthebite a couple of years ago. You were rather put out about it. Have you fished with Kenton? I have, on the Reef, we works his ass off. I've spent a few seasons in Kona too. So if you want to compare you and him I can get on the phone and make some inquiries. I'm not going to trash you, we generally go along well, but you steped way over the line there.
