    Looking to become a mate...

If this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it, and I apologize, as this is my first post.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what some of the 'requirements' are to become a mate/deckhand on a charter vessel.

I'm 19 years old, clean cut, non smoker, drug and alcohol free engineering student. I've been fishing for most of my life in the waters around Cape Cod, MA, mainly for bass and blues with some experience fishing for small pelagics (bonito and false albacore). I have a true passion for the sport and a willingness to learn. I am mechanically inclined and can diagnose/remedy minor engine/electrical issues and am a certified TIG welder (not that it necessarily matters).

What do most captains look for in a mate? I have zero experience with the position.

    willingness to learn

all that it takes is a good attitude to learn alot of time and not to be afraid to ask some captians have a chip on there shoulder but they forget that they where in the pit at one time to i have been a vet of the pit for a long time and has fished from ocean city to south america and have won alot of money but i still ask and keep a open mind cause its part of being a team player its not about the money its about you and that beast on the other end of the wire and the smile it brings to you and the angler that you won that fight and only cause your baits looked good for him to chew and that the knot you just tied that morning held for more inside contact me at mdurrant221@comcast.net
