Do i have what it takes?
Hi, Im 14 and want to become a mate on a sportfishing boat. I only have inshore experience but im a fast learner. I dont see myself doing anything else but fishing! I can get to the dock as early as you want even earlier and ill clean and prepare the boat every day. Im respectful and generous. Ill even work for low tips. I dont care how much i get paid as long as im on a boat until i get 18 lol! so if your a captain do i have what it takes?

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I'd Say So,
Just by inquiring at the age of 14, tell's me a bunch. Don't know how close to the water you are. By just walking the docks daily, offering yourself when help is needed will go along way. If folk's get used to seeing you daily with a smile on your face and a positive attitude to go with it, I'm pretty sure it won't take long for someone to notice you. By being respectful (alway's and toward everyone) at that age, you will quickly seperate yourself from the rest of the pack quick.
I feel sure that if the desire stay's, you'll get your spot. Good luck and learn, learn, learn. Frank

Just bought a 65' hat!
Good attitude
You sound like a good prospect. Hit the docks as often as you can and make sure all of the captains know you are looking for work and training. A positive, repetive message will get their attention. Keep an open mind as there are many different ways to do the same thing and every Captain you work for will do things His way. Tips are based on proformence and attitude. Don't undersell yourself. It may take a while so don't get discouraged.
