Anybody looking for crew?
Hello,
My name is Michael Frisch, I'm trying to find a job as a mate on a sportsfisher.
First I’d like to introduce myself: I was born on April 12th 1983, in a small town in Luxembourg. After finishing High school in Luxembourg, I went to Germany to study Aquaculture, finishing in 2004 with a degree in fish-farming. Since I’ve always felt a special relation to fish, I started traveling, working in different fish-farms all around the world, spending more than 3 years in Germany, Belgium, Sweden and Australia.
In 2007 I discovered my love to big game fishing, so I started looking for a job on a sport fisher somewhere in the world. Soon I got in contact with Mr. Derek Biel, who is an I.G.F.A certified captain and runs a 45’ Hatteras out of Falmouth harbor in Antigua, West Indies. Captain Biel gave me the chance to mate on his boat Obsession for a season. Obsession is a charter boat, owned by Derek Biel himself, and we offered 4, 6 or 8 hour trips, doing mostly light tackle fishing (20 to 50 lbs.) for Wahoo, Dolphin and White Marlin, as well as Blue Marlin and Kingfish during the summer. We hardly never fished heavier than 50 lbs. tackle, only on the occasional Blue Marlin trips and during tournaments we took out the 80 lbs. gear.
Since there was only Derek and me on the boat, taking out up to 6 guests, I learned a lot about fishing, given that Derek Biel is a highly skilled fisherman, who I’ve always greatly respected .
I fell in love with my job right from the start, and enjoyed every single minute on the boat. In fact, one could say, that I was living a dream.
After my Visa ran out in July, I took the chance to do a transatlantic crossing on a sailboat, leaving for Barcelona after 7 months in Antigua.
Back home, I got the opportunity to manage our only fish farm in Luxembourg. Thought it started out looking all good, I now have to admit that this isn’t really what I want to do, even if it is a save and well paid job, close to my family and friends, I don’t think I can ever get really happy here.
And that’s why I’m posting this letter. I want to get back to the big game fishing business, and maybe get the chance to mate on your boat. I know that there is still a lot to learn, but I assure you, that I’ve got a keen perception, big flexibility, and the deep desire to become a truly professional mate. So if you could spare some time to teach a young man how to become a great mate, I would really appreciate it, that you give me the chance to live my dream again, and I guaranty you, that you won’t regret your decision.
Due to my 7 month experience mating on Obsession in Antigua, my flexibility, ability to work in a team as well as the knowledge of 4 languages, my fast learning character and the fact that I have been fishing my home waters since I was 6, I believe that I’d fit in perfectly in your crew.
I’d love to send you my resume and any further information about me, my life and skills as a mate/fisherman, just send me an e-mail, and I will get back to you.
