just a suggestion since you sound like a nice young man . to find work as a mate try spending time down at the docks talking with the mates and captains , get to know them . offer to help clean and scrub a few rigs for free or lend a hand when needed . while hanging out with the crews get some of the mates show the way they rig baits pay good attention to detail , and yes everyone does it different .

after getting to know a few crews you might get a ride or two as a second mate on a trip . after getting your feet wet and having others see your efforts a ride will turn up when someone cannot showup ontime or moves on to another job. just my .02
