Azores report 8/25
got this off another site.
08/25/07 - Sian Carter - Xácara Big Game Fishing - Azores Report In the last three weeks, the fishing has been up and down. Long time clients Sean and Stuart had a great charter this year, releasing 4 blues from 7 strikes, the smallest of which was 750 lbs and the largest was probably a grander but they did not want to kill it so called it 950 lbs. Italian Marcello Taddei had the most amazing experience of all, and I am sure no will believe it is true. He is an experienced tuna angler, but this was his first time trying for marlin. He fished just 3 days, on his first day he released a huge blue marlin which they estimated at 900 lbs, then late in the day hooked up another equally as big. This was a long hard fight, and unfortunately the marlin died so they decided to bring it in and weigh it. It was 912 lbs. On his second day, nothing, but on the third day, on a different boat with a different captain, Marcello hooked up and released yet another huge blue estimated at 900 lbs! We had Kareem and Badr from Saudi Arabia who fished a few days on Xacara and a few days on Habitat. Kareem was the motivating force behind this charter and released a small blue of 400 lbs but the next day Badr spent 4 hours 30 minutes fighting a huge blue that was foul hooked. It was massive, much bigger than the 912 lber that had been weighed just a few days before but when they finally got it to the boat is was still a healthy fish so they decided to release it. Kareem was disappointed that he had not been able to fight such a big fish. Then we had a last minute cancellation on Xacara and it did not take long for Kareem to decide to change his plane tickets and continue fishing for a few more days. He was rewarded with an 800 lb blue, released in good condition. In the last 3 weeks, between all the boats, some days just one boat fishing and once as many as 5, there have been 37 strikes, of which 23 were released and one was weighed. They are still mostly big fish over 750 lbs but a few smaller 400 and 500 lbers are beginning to appear.
