    Addicted/ Afflicted/ Intoxicated/ Screwed!

I was just gonna check the boards tonight and read a few posts......

Your thread caught me....and I was JUST SAYING THE SAME STUFF to my wife tonight.....I am insane, too!

I mean, take today for example.....I set my alarm TODAY for 02:02am in Maine, met my 2 buddies on the road and we left Maine by 03:04~
Launched at Gloucester @ 0430~ 3rd truck in the lot...

Lines in before 0500~ 5 line spread became a 6 line spread when we couldnt agree on how many and of what color bar we needed.....F-it put 3 out there.....

And we trolled & trolled NWC, ......yep, all the areas that have produced before.....

Whales, birds, plenty of bait....no sign of Charlie.....trolled until 0900~ ran down the E side of the bank to roughly middle bank...found some charlie on top & feeding aggressively.....

Zingo....toss two plugs at them....one fish grabs Jeremy's Yozuri for a second....misses the hookset.....off ~ I get no takers on my yellow SaltyDog

Fish are gone~ another pod busts 100 yds away.....run/gun.....

The day ended with @ 1230, NOAA missed the mark on another seas report (that was fine with us), we burned who knows how much fuel in the boat, 3x that in the truck, food/ drinks......

And I'd do it all over again tomorrow.....

. Atleast you have folks at work that talk about fishing. My guys here think half my stories are illusions. I don't even share half the stories.
I work in the seafood business. You'd think we'd be like a gynecologist and get sick of seeing the same thing over and over again.

    Never happens.

    troubling . . .

here is what is a little troubling about your post: You have recognized your condition (either through self diagnosis or through commentary by your loved ones) yet there is a tiny piece of you that is fighting it instead of flowing with it. You gotta say to yourself, "I have an addiction. I recognize my addiction. I can either fight it and hate myself in the morning or I can embrace it in all of its glory."

I prescribe that you resign your inner most being (that last 2% of you that is troubling you) to this addiction. Climb the nearest mountain and shout at the top of your lungs that you are an Insane Fishing Freak and that you love it. And so it will be and you will find peace.

    Now, let's hear an Amen!

Great thread and good luck with the baby Amarshall....Most of us on here suffer from the same disease.

Back in 2001 was the first time that I saw a Tuna fish explode a spreader bar and heard the crack of the outrigger clip pop. Fishing has controlled my life ever since.....Thanks Scott Clay!

Also - if you think you're F*cked now.....whoever said NOT to do a canyon trip was spot on with that advice.....When you see a 500+ lb Blue Marlin hammer the short rigger daisy chain 15 yards behind the boat and greyhound straight at you with its mouth wide open trying its best to destroy whatever is in its path ......that's when the real personal problems begin...haha....good luck man!

It seems to me that you are in the early to middle stage of the disease. When I was still in my thirties my second wife would say to me,"Well I like to sit on the beach and relax."Already having gone through a painful divorce ,I decided to nip this one in the bud. My reply was "Then I'll wave to you on my way out." Flowers also become uneffective once you pass 35,and once you hit 50 you have a better chance at sex with a mermaid at sea then you do at home,so just try to relax and let the disease run its course. You may even go into remission like your father did, but even the best of us can't escape it.... so next time your'e on the way in with a fish in the boat, and all the assholes that are with you turn into friends once again, be glad you have this sickness because you know there's noplace you'd rather be. good luck.

    we are all nutzzz

Each time I leave the dock I am chasing that high and when I get skunked I tell myself o.k I need to take a week or two off until the fishing gets better, spend some time with the family finish some projects at home get organized etc. BUT usually the next day after being on land for a mere 12 hours I get this rush of adrenline come up with a plan in my head how I am going to find and catch a fish and start figuring out where I can come up with the money for the fuel. Then I make the calls to my friends who I have corrupted and get them all pumped to go. DEFINATELY like a drug addiction!! Just got to be careful and manage it if that is possible....????? See you out there!

Hit the nail on the head!

The best thread I've read in months. My wife heard me laughing(half crying) and came over and read it too, I said honey look I'm not alone and she replied that we must both be pretty sick . I think we may be related..I went from a 21 Hydra-sport WA to a 25 parker sc and now have to convince my woman on how much nicer a family fishing boat a 29 albermarle would be. (also pregnant except due in January.....not an accident) Also went through the progression of tackle, 113h's to 50's, now I just picked up a pair of 130's.
Try not to look at fuel slips till november, liferaft is packed, epirp is ready, need to upgrade my radar ouch 3k. I have to do what I can to keep peace but you know we always are planning our next 3 trips in our heads. Screw it we can always beg forgiveness in december...let's go fishing. Do your best to keep her happy and good luck with the new baby and maybe you can sneak a quick trip in when her family comes over

    Giggy
