How about people having your reels repaired or even cleaning them? Most peoople who get stripped or lose fish have not maintained their equipment properly. People bring their equipment to us to splice and spool, we won't even touch reels unless they are rebuilt or in excellent condition. We test drags and set for line size for our customers and before we go fishing. When we teach people to fish for Bluefin tuna they must have at least 50# class rod and reel. I fish 50 wide Shimano and 80 Penn never lose more than 200 yds and most fish are under 20 minutes. although I have had some kooky 70" fish. "Hey" how about the guys who go out expecting to land them with a striper net or a Bocha grip?

Last year we landed a 450lb Blue marlin on a Penn 30. It took some chasing to get some line back after the 1st run. After landing that fish I think I can land a pretty big tuner on an 80.

Amateurs drop fish !!!
Makes me laugh listening to the radio with all the talk about knock downs and misses !!!
Can't tell ya bout all the fish we've taken over the years! BUT I can remember EVERY one we lost!..could,or should write a book on all the stupid, dumb things, that can and do happen when dealing with Giants! Tommy
Unfortunately, that tuna that spooled you will die. Take 750+ yards of mono and drag it behind your boat and you will see what I mean. Even a very big fish cannot pull that around for too long.
