    Yellowfin/ Bluefin/ Mahi Dump 8/27

The "Qualifier" made its way back to the Dump yesterday for some more yellowfin action and possibly a shot at a billfish. Fished "gentlemen" hours as we got a late start, not arriving to the break until noon. The water was still producing as it has been over the past two weeks. We were able to pull yellowfin, bluefin and some mahi out. This time the rat yellows we had been catching were mixed with a few decent fish in the 45# range. Didn't raise a bill or a wahoo but it was still a productive day.

Nice hoo. We were out there on weds and went 2 for 3 on yft. Not the best day to be out (kind of snotty actually), but I'll take a 40 mile run to a couple of yft any day.

    I'm good with that.

What kind of lure are you guys running? Small trolling lures or spreader bars?

Ballyhoo, ballyhoo, ballyhoo with a spreader and a jet mixed in somewhere...

Interestingly, the majority of fish were taken in in the wash. Having fished this water four times in the past 2 weeks this was the first time that I was consistently getting hits in tight.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. So you got the fish in close? Thats awesome. We are going to leave from Nantucket on tuesday I think. Naked ballyhoo? Or skirted? I had made some hogy snipers, I wonder if they would work.

That's a baby bluefin no? Not a hoo?

we had yellowfin boiling all over snipers; they work. If your using them bring spare hogy's and glue because the yellowfin rip them up.

And yes that is a striped bluefin tuna; little warm water jewel.

We fished the area today. It wasn't lock and load, but we managed 6 species of fish to the boat and all within easy visibility of MV, and we got a nice hoo! Boat ride was about the equivalent of a bass trip to cuttyhunk for me.... crazy

nice fish for a short run, the seas look flat, was there a lot of weed in the water from the storm ?
