    Winter 09/10 boat/rigging projects

I unloaded every single thing not screwed down on the Jenny Lee this afternoon. Tonight I am more than mildly nauseous.

During the uptime, I try to fish and not work on projects too much on the boat. Now that she is up for the winter, here are a few projects I'm working on this winter/spring for the 2010 season.

What are you guys working on?

    1. Lee wishbone Jr outriggers.
    2. Replace certain fixed pin rod holders with 0 deg swivels.
    3. Install rod/reel hangers in cabin of boat.
    4. Rename all waypoints or delete those not used.
    5. Learn my electronics more than just the basic screens.
    6. Reorganize the cockpit such that there is not a single thing on the deck while fishing/fighting.
    7. Buy rods/reels and rig them for a specific spread and commit to that for the season.
    8. The usualy rigging/leader creation for the season.

    Tag - you're it!

Sounds like you will be able to keep busy this winter! One thing to remember though, the spread you run will always be changing depending on conditions, what the fish want, bright/cloudy days, etc. Having rods for trolling/ bait would be the most convienent, but that comes with a price. Having a rod set up for kite fishing, plus a kite rod, would be a good idea. Run a full spool of Jerry brown with no top shot on the kite reel, then a 12' or so leader, less drag on the line helps the whole set up.

    Yup, Me too.
Anything that was not a necessary item is off the boat!
I am going to reorganize all the storage on the boat so I also dont have tons of "STUFF" on the seats in the wheel house!
Rig greenstick baits, rig greensticks baits........
All of the tackle cabinet draws are home they are all getting dumped out and washed (bleached) and put back in order.
All knives are getting the de-rusting and an edge put back on them.
And life raft repack, and safety gear all checked!

Got a few ideas like you guys

@ pull the riggers, wash & wax
@ clean out the console, install some floor pads to keep moisture off gear?
@ strip all the caulking edges around the console~ replace with the 3M Marine 101 - pink tube
@ clean the fish box / wish I had more room onboard....

Ahhh, life as a small boat.....there's nothing else to do

Don't forget your trailers.....transfer the grease/water from the bearings.....remove wheels, check & flush the brakes, brake lines, light & ground connections, lube lug nut studs, and get her ready for the spring cod & haddock run

Another thing I like to do is spray down parts of the trailer that can rust in some type of anti rust spray. We got a new dual axle aluminum trailer this year and after spraying the corrosion prone parts with PB Blaster after every dunking we have zero rust.

I need to replace a faulty tach, but besides that everything is good to go for the spring. Time to play the waiting game

Using waste oil as a shield is an old trick we used on the farm I worked as a kid. I used it on my trailer wheels and rear most cross members on my trailer this year. It seems the lower unit oil, 90W, is light enough to bond well and create a barrier (my trailer is a Venture galvy-metal)

Just save that old oil changes and use an old paint brush....wipe it right on.... At the dock on your first splash it makes the water glass up with that sheen....but that goes away after 1 launch.....

    AT,

    Good list.

I am adding to that list for my "new to me" 33 Wellcraft -

    new electronics

    new Lee outriggers

    new canvas

clean the bajesus out of the boat

    have the props balanced

insulate the deck between the motors with sound insulation

replace one of the windshield wiper motors and all wiper blades

    etc., etc., etc.

Pics of some of the new electronics -
