The rest of the story
One of my cousins has a summer home in Chatham and an aged vessel. We were always close growing up and we both love to fish...tuna! So I delivered some lobstah for his family and he said we really need to get out together. We hatched the plan and included another relative and his friend. Well Mark and I ended up the only ones to show so we left after a long wait for Jeff and friend. I thought about how I am so used to leaving at o dark thirty and running all day and was off my game but Mark and I have always been lucky when we get together so no big deal. It's about spending quality time. Nah it's about the fishing He showed me the new cut and we departed under sunny skies and a nice ground swell. Lot's of activity on the way out supposedly blue's and bass as we pushed towards the Sword. We were sitting on the bridge with absolutely unlimited visibility when I saw the first spout then another and another and it was time to set the table. With just two of us on board and no autopilot we decided a conservative six rod spread was in order.
The usual suspects were put to work. Shotgun was a bird GM that Mark had concocted worst use of color I had ever seen. Call the fashion police please.....Green Monstah Bars, Black Bars, Splash Bars, Spider Bars,Brown Bar yeah we pulled some bars..
I found a bunch of life and headed for it as Mark set his riggers and the spread. This is not a high tech triple spreader rigger set up but it gets the job done nice and simple.
Well the spread is set and in no time an 80 is giving it up in warp speed. Mark goes below and announces your on the rod...why me I'm up here where it's nice and peaceful He clears the spread and we are into a nice fish....we release the fish as we have just started. Little did we know what we were in for. Re-set the spread and again in about 20 minutes we are tight...Mark's up as I clear the spread and he settles into the fighting belt and harness...release number two
Four rods out and setting the fifth..we'r tight and now we realize we are in the middle of a wide open bite and not another boat in sight...This continues as we can't go twenty minutes without getting tight. The only bluefish of the day came while I was clearing the spread as Mark was into a nice fish.
Fish makes a good initial run couple hundred yards on the 80 again...Mark get's him turned and I begin a circle to help get some line back for Mark..This technique works great for recovering line while keeping everything tight....We get the fish about 50 yds from the boat and it just takes off another 200 yards...Mark looks up and smiles and says this is gonna take a little longer. We continue to put the pressure and turn in slow circles to get line back then we straighten the boat as I get the gloves on and decide we are going to take this one...I gaff the fish and Mark has the tail rope ready and on in a moment.
We ended up taking two fish in the 125-150 pound class..both males.
Mark announced;"welcome to the good old days" as we never went more than 20 minutes without a fish on. We went double digit and never dropped a fish or saw another boat. Our initial six rod spread went to four then two
OI Green Monstah Bars, Fred Archer Spider Bars, and one very mismatched color combination were deployed...Water depth was in the 200 foot range
Whales everywhere were very active feeding on huge sand eels
It was a magic kind of day. A wide open bite..unlimited visibility in Chatham..two guyz havin a ball a real family affair. Double digit tuners
He's gonna do some serious bustin on the no shows...time for me to go back to being a cappy this reelin em in thing is tiring....I sure got that itch scratched...
Hey maybe this take a family member or relative fishing thing is good mojo!
Please pass the asprin and then get on the water and have some of this fun.
That is one heck of a day Vin! You guys need to do some serious hazing on the no-shows. Thanks for releasing some of those for the rest of us...hopefully they will make their way North!

Thanks guyz
It's days like that will carry though the sometimes endless hours of listening to the diesels...We will be in another local tomorrow chasing some toothy critters..
Reports from tonight say the bite was not as strong today but still very positive for most with 100+ pound fish very active
