There are fish east of Chatham in all the spots you guys mentioned including a few larger models taken further SE. The whiting grounds should be fun this weekend, take pictures and videoif you go. If you are into lottery fishing you might draw a lucky ticket and get a 1000lb slob, I think as Larry stated the edge is only for those with 45' or more beneath them which is a bummer. I hope to be east of Chatham casting to breaking fish but doubt I can get out this weekend, good luck to all and be safe out there.
Looks like we're going to be lonely down south.
I am sure there will be other boats equipped and designed for a late fall night out there with you. Mine is not, so I'm out.
I am however thinking seriously about rolling the dice and investigating the area around the Banana Buoy. I like to be lonely![]()
Is bad mouthing the chunk bite in the bay the hipster thing to do now ?
Id go to east edge of Hydro and flats to Welker if I had the boat. Going to be FAC sunday into monday.
Just sprayed coffee, thanks Andrew
Saw you coming in today going up Narrangansett Bay as i was on my way home from Block Island bass fishing about 4;00PM, tried you on the radio, how ways your trip. Boat looks nice.
Strikezone
Strike Zone,
I didn't have the volume up on the radio after I hailed Galilee Fuel Service.
Too tired to give a full blown report, but we went to Hydro thinking the west end break may be the best place to start the hunt. Found the water exactly where the temp shot said it was. Since were were pressed for time, I didn't stay in Hydro too long. There were no signs of life in the area of Hydro that we were in so I booted her up and went to Welkers.
We found all sorts of life in Welkers. We did 3 nice tuna on the troll, biggest being in the 80 lb range. Got 2 early on the night chunk, boated a Mako over 6' in the middle of the canyon, landed 5 Mahi largest being 18.4 lbs. Nice Mahi.
We could have done better, but we had a couple of big fish come unbuttoned. It was nothing anyone did, from the captains perspective I can tell you that tension was always there and nothing was horsed in, we just lost a few.
Had a sword pup on and too the boat before he got off, he was small and would have been let go anyway.
Had blus sharks in the butterfish chunk a few times, messing things up.
Those 6' seas took a toll on the burn rate going out at 28 knts.
Not the epic trip we were looking for, but we got out, once again we had a great crew we caught and we're fueled and ready to go again. The crew consisted of a charter captain, an outfitter, 2 guys with degrees in fisheries and one has been a mate for a long time and now has his own captains license. It was a great crew. And we had fun. There's nothing like trying to get some rest only to hear a line go off.
Other than a lobster boat, I only talked to one other boat that was in Hydro as we were in Welkers.
Once again it was us alone in the canyons with the commercial guys.
Seems to me that all of the guys buying boats based on adds stating " Get out when the others stay tied to the dock" seem to stay tied to the dock themselves because we're not seeing them out where we play.
So she looked good, buzzing up the bay?
