The first batch were all low quality. With the shit weather I have not paid close attention to how the second batch looked. But as you know the guys turned around and went right back anyways...
I am not sure if Earl was bad enough out there to move things around or not, first people that go will be taking a gamble but may pay off. Good luck to anyone who goes and be safe!
really is it about the cash or the kill?
Its hard to define but I would say its about both, I guess. While most people who do this need to make money doing it, there is no doubt that everyone who does it, does it, at least in part, because they enjoy it. This fishery is an addiction, no doubt about it.
As for this talk about quality, lets put it this way- thinking you can tell the quality ahead of time is usually not the right attitude to have. Catching tuna is never that easy. Even if the fish are not great quality, its still worth catching them. Back in the nineties when a lot more boats were going and there were a lot less dogs and small fish, and quotas were filled in days, it was one thing to think a lot more about catching fish at the right time (saving them for later in season). But nowadays, catch them anyway you can. Even a low quality fish will bring in money if its big enough.
As for whether guys should go out there or not- thats up to you guys! To me it comes down to if the weather is right and you think you can get them easier there than inshore.

The fish the Eagle Eye II caught on the sword show looked good quality. Did you see him out there???
It's a joke!![]()
the rumor of the one boat having 17 was completely false.
I know another boat had em right in the slick up behind the boat and stuck one out of the slick and pulled the dart on him. but as has already been mentioned the scallopers left and its not as easy as it was.
I know someone who knows someone who heard something which was false.
Anyways - what are the numbers - steaming there in 20....
the kayak/tuna guy from last year left for George's this morning.
