Caught my first Whiting this year just wondering what is the usual or ideal size guys use for tune bait. The ones we pulled ranged from maybe 7'' to 10''. I am assuming bigger is better with these guys. Any idea how big they get?

I have seen them up to probably around 18inches. All sizes work, elephants eat peanuts. Just match the hook size to the whiting size if possible.

the really good ones are the same size as those mini red sox souvenir baseball bats they sell at fenway , entice these bigger ones by adding a small strip (1"x .25") of cut herring or butterfish to your sabiki rig hooks
I witnessed a big tuna eating a 8" whiting a couple weeks ago, kept us buy for a few hours.
Thanks for the input guys.
I have been bridle rigging these guys through the nose any thoughts on that?
Thanks again

Here's my .02
1. fish them DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
2. they die easy
3.they make a good stitch bait
Use a 8/0 or 9/0 for the small whiting, turn the hook sideways and slip it through both nostrils. You'll feel it slip through rather than puncture anything. Then turn the hook back vertical and they usually live as long as we keep them in the water. They will play dead when they come up, but if you put them right back down they will come right back to life, or vent them properly and you can keep them in a chilled livewell for at least a few hours.
