    White shark question

we now have data supporting the fact we have a healthy population of 8-12 foot white sharks off Chatham as well as a number of catch and release reports indicating a juvenile population of 5-7 footers.

We also have all those reports from our brothers in arms; fisherman like us who have repeatedly have had monstrous white sharks, 15,18, 20 feet and more swim under their boat or eat their tuna while they watched, jaws open in amazement.

What I want to know - why can't the scientists, pilots, sharkhunters and others tag some of those instead of the babies?

Don't waste yer time, Chris. Some ppl have no idea that the Shark Hunter crew has put tags on some real big fish, both this year, last and the one before that, not to mention having documented some of the largest ever seen on the east coast. The fact that their buds aren't involved troubles them some ppl so very much that they say stupid things. Nothing new...

There was another white spotted just outside New Bedford harbor on Wednesday. This is getting a little too close for comfort.

Did they confirm that was a white off new bedford? If so.. wow. I thought "we'd" be safe in the warm water of nantucket sound and buzzards bay.

I just read a report on it this AM in the Boston Rag, er I mean, Globe, that said a couple sailing instructors saw a fin and an 8-10' body. I don't think they've confirmed it as a shark yet but beaches were closed anyway.

The real fisherman that know how to get the big ones up. I have 3 that all over 20' one I'm positive is the mother of the 7'er that was tagged earlier this season.
It's no different than deer hunters that shoot little bucks. They think hunting big bucks is the same
Before anyone says what kind of fisherman is working with skomal he has a spotter plane. Ask any good stickboat guy if he needs one. Either they are padding the bill or they don't really know. By judging from the size of the fish I'd pick B.
I grew up commercial fishing because I had to. I don't have to yet so there is no way I will show or tell you how it really works.
