Where to stay on St Johns?

Thinking of taking the bride to St. Johns and was looking for some advice on where to stay. If you had your choice would you choose Caneel Bay resort, Gallows point Resort or the Westin. Just looking for a nice place to kick back, relax, fish and snorkel.

    Thanks

    Jon

Caneel Bay is much quieter than the Westin, both very nice. Calmer water on the north side of island (Caneel) and more places to snorkel. Great island to kick back.

Went to a wedding at Caneel Bay while the grooms dinner was held at the Westin

I thought the beauty and layout at Caneel was far superior than the Westin Caneel is somewhat more private and surrounded with landscape and natural forests than Westin Caneel is also a bit higher up on the hill and seems to have a better breeze We didn't stay at either one due to costs we spent the week at the tree huts in Maho Bay. A bit rustic and you had to schlep everything in but its more our speed and was alot of fun including the the snorkeling at nearby Lemon grass was spectacular.

    st. john

I lived and worked on St. John for about 3 years back in the early 1990's.....and recently went back with my family (december).....

There is really no comparison here. Caneel bay is by far the better choice. The beaches, snorkling, amenities are among the nices in the VIs....The Westin is ok but really nothing special....additionally, the beach in front of the westin is not really that nice.....in fact, when i lived there, many of my friends lived on sailboats moored near the westin beach....we never swam there...it wasnt the cleanest water around....

One other option you might consider is Peter Island (one of the BVIs)...this place is just off the charts nice!!!!

I like all your choices and have stayed at all of them many times. Westin is great if you love children and don't eat there $$$. Caneel is cool if you don't mind the Early Bird Special and lack of technology. Gallows is really close to town and has the best sunset dining on the island (Zozo's) and coffee (imported from Newburyport Roasters). Please try Rhumb Lines for the best Pacific Rim Fusion of your life!
Honestly all of the resorts are beautiful and I would stay at anyone of them in a heartbeat. I do not choose to stay on St. John anymore after over 40 yrs of working and living there on season. I just find that the extra half day it takes to get from STT to STJ is just a burden on the vacation and absorbs a whole day or more of your time off. Take a look at Redweek.com and score two or so weeks on St. Martin or anywhere for cheap frickin money with a kitchen and all, they even have the Westin in St.John for some "good" prices also.
I go for direct flights only to save that precious day off.
There are many direct flights from BOS to STT daily and you can stay at many modest and private resorts for under 100.00/day with pool, beach and within twenty steps from your suite w/kitchen and deck.
Currently staying here for 70 bucks a night!! Actually the wife is there gettin tan, buyin a place an keeping it warm till I get there. I hope!

I would go with Fissues inputs, the guy knows the island gave me a call when we were there even though we never met and offered to pick us up and take us fishing. We did not hook up because my phone was off but he is tops in my book for even trying.

That photo is taken from our unit at Bluebeards Beach Club in St.Thomas. Not the Ritz but for 70-100 bucks at night with two floors, full kitchen and a private beach/bar and pool it can't be beat. A small place with maybe 50 units for your average Joe. We're gettin plane tickets at 250 or so and stock the kitchen and you're all set! 2.95 for a bottle of rum don't hurt till tomorrow.
Rent a Fountain or a World Cat down the street for 300 bucks a day and they just give you the keys.
