    What's your favorite cod jig?

While I'm trying to waste the rest of this work day I was just wondering what eveyone's favorite cod jig is? I personally like the stainless norwegian jig by Solvroken in whatever ounce the current dictates, although there is something to be said for the quick falling ability of a crippled herring. The fish yesterday only wanted the jig, the people near me fishing clam saw very little action. Norwegians, crippled herrings and diamonds seemed to clean up. I know it is mostly a matter of preference, just wondering.

All those are must-haves up here. The only additions I would mention is a cod fly and a butterfly jig. For bait we always do really well with shrimp.

Lav jigs. Capt Phil Eastman swears by them. He got me to use them and They are my go to jig. I still keep the crippled herrings and some diamond jigs but the lavs seem to outfish them all. They are similar to a Norwegian but are shaped a little different and I have seen many big cod fall victim to them.

yep 10-16 nickel plated or unplated. Haven't tried the nickel ones the plain ones have killed enough cod for me to have me sold on them.

I agree, Lav Jigs are awesome. I find that groundfish are almost never picky and what matters more is what lets you fish most effectively with regards to the tide, current, wind, etc. With that said, I use pretty much whatever I grab first and usually catch fish no matter what.

Lavjigs are great. We're still cooking cod 1-2 times a week from last falls take. One of the keys is having a swivel between the jig and hook to prevent the fish from twisting off. Also, they don't get hung up as much and if its rocky, don't seem to bang up the end so bad, probably the way it drifts down. Casting ahead while drifting increases odds but my wife has taken nice fish while reading a book with the jig with the pole in the holder. I tried both the dull plain lead and plated. The plating seems to wear off but it doesn't seem to matter. The dull ones work just fine. You can get them at surfland or direct from Dennis.

I think at such a depth and with such cloudy water, that the finish dosnt matter. I think its all movement. When we bait fish and its slow we take the weight and thump it on the bottom a few times, that makes it look like something just moved and excites the fish. As far as feathers and worms go, i think somedays colors def matter, and its a trial and erra thing.
