Whats the strangest thing you have seen offshore?

Thought this would be a good topic, share some cool stories. The strangest thing I ever saw was east of Chatham on a cod jigging trip when I was a kid. It was a flat day we were catching nice markets and had a good sized porbeagle around the boat when suddenly the peaceful seas erupted and a submarine burst out of the water. I thought that was the coolest thing I had seen, much to our dismay there were some other naval vessels in the area and we were instructed to leave the area before we could hook the shark.

I wouldn't call it strange, but I've seen aircraft carriers running training missions - with planes doing touch and gos, dogfights, etc - always cool to see a dogfight 50 miles offshore.

Strangest would probably have to be some of the crap that rafts up in the weed lines - old nets, plastic, a rubber raft, etc - there is an amazing amount of garbage to be found offshore.

Swordfish free jumping at the dump

Back in the mid 90's I was mating on the ET, we were steaming to the canyons and were somewhere in the Dump, I was in the pit out of the corner of my eye I saw something break the water, as I focused in, it was a 200-300lbs swordfish, I yelled up to the bridge that I just saw a swordfish jump, everyone looked at me like I was crazy. Ronnie steamed over towards where I saw the fish jump, then up it jumped again!!! From the bridge Ronnie could see a 600+ pound mako chasing the sword, crazy!!! It was flat calm and it was about 10am!!! This used to be very prolific sword grounds make me think how many are still around?

Water spouts and submarines in the NE canyons; 2 Haitians floating around in what appeared to be a big oil drum tied with floats and ropes off Key Largo.
