Whats the official ruling? Canadian Built as a Charter boat?

So whats the deal, can you have a Canadian vessel with state registration and use it as an un-inspected charter vessel/ 6-pak.

I know I've seen a few Canadian's builds as charter boats. One was a blue dixon in Gloucester and the other was a Provincial out of Portsmouth/seabrook.

or do you have to go through and get an exemption?

Unless it's changed, you cannot use a non-U.S. "bottom" as a charter boat in the U.S.A.
With an exception: if the vessel has undergone major refitting here in the U.S.

That might not be the current rule, but it used to be......

Last time I looked into this, 10+ years ago. If the hull was not laid in US you could only run it as an OUPV, or uninspected 6 pack only. Not sure if it has changed.

That would explain all of the Dixons and Northern Bays being finished in Maine.

Sounds like a GOOGAN type question

If your intent was to charter your newly aquired Candian laid Donelle hull, and you asked this question after the purchase......You are a GOOGAN.

Any foreign vessel over 5 net ton can not be fished in U.S. waters,I bought a 47 ft Novi boat out of Stonington Maine that had been fishing for 40 years,I made one trip to Platts & was bordered by the coast guard, not only did they make me return to port they informed me I would be fined $5000 a day if caught fishing from the day I was bordered. The sad part was I had found some scallops & the drags were coming up full,I gave the numbers to a friend & he deck loaded his boat for 3 weeks straight.
