Whats the latest/earliest date you have caught Bluefin
What is the latest date you have caught bluefin in New England? Last year we had a great Giant bite in November. Looking for actual stories and dates, seems like we are getting a few extra weeks as compared to years ago.

Vinnie and I were either 3 or 4 for 10 or 11 on 50 something inch fish. We had 2 doubles and I think one brief triple in 90' of water.
We lost a good one on a pot which is why yesterday was so special. last year we were 3 for 5 on Nov 6th on 60-something inch fish - Damon plucked a 400 pounder out of the same birdpile as us. I have caught fish the last 4 Novembers and also on Nov 2, 2001. The issue from Falmouth is length of day and usually no water at the dock to clean up when you return. |

Last year we made our last trip on Nov. 6th and boated 2 60" fish several hours apart just west of the SWC. It was a beautiful day kind of gray and calm with fish airing out all over the place most of the day. No real epic surface feeds just lots of onesy-twosie type leaping. We got tight early on around 8:00 am. on a popper just blind casting in an area where we had fish coming up pretty regularly. Then we hit a dry period for a couple of hours until I got bored casting and let a 12" sluggo out behind the boat maybe 200 ft. I putt putted around for maybe 10 min. and the rod goes down and 30 min. later we had 60" fish number 2 leadered unhooked and released. Next Thursday is looking real good if the forecast holds so i am hoping for a repeat of last year.

Last year it was either nov 12 or 19th. I forget but I remember it was a wednesday. Got one about 58 inches and broke off a small giant on the chunk. Got a few trips in last nov. and they were all great. Water temps were down to 48 degrees and one day there was some frost to scrape off the windows at 330 before running 2 hrs out. Just when you are able to sleep in a bit with the sun coming up late the clocks go back.

Keep the reports coming guys, I like to keep track of this stuff. Its pretty cool, for what is considered a seasonal tuna fishery that most people used to consider July-Sept. Is now looking like a solid June-Nov. On that note-
When was your first tuna caught of the season? Ja-hootie, I hear you man been putting way too much time in at the shop and not enough time out fishing . But we had a very busy summer and have been working on a lot of really cool things coming down the road for 2010, stay tuned. (Stop on by the shop if your in the area). Also I always have wide open ears for any rigging suggestions etc. or improvements I could make on any of my products, any of you SFC members feel free to call me anytime or shoot me a P.M.
