went ground fishing 6/27 28 out Portland Me.

We had a late start on Sat 6/27 as we had to change the oil and filters on the new motor in there 38' boat and Ian had some work duties before we could head out left the dock at 1:00 pm went 12 miles out in lite fog and calm seas when we got to where we were going and set up for the first drift and the currant was running a river, dropped down and hit bottom lifted up and was hooked up with the first cod of the day was around 8 lbs ended the day with 6 cod and 1 pollock the biggest cod went around 15 lbs. when we left the fog had set in and visibility was down to 100' or less made for a long ride back to the dock. Picture of me with the biggest cod of the day
on Sunday 6/28 we had another late start started inshore to try for some bait to take out with us with not much luck picked up up 3 mackerel so off we go get out to the 12 mile mark where we were yesterday around 1:30 pm and the currant is still running a river dropped down and hit bottom lift up and I think I have snagged bottom but bottom does not head shake when I can see color I have a nice cod and a good pollock cod was around 12lbs and the pollock was the same ended the day with 9 pollock and 4 cod left around 4:30 pm I cant wait to get back out with them again next time we will get out early and fish late. Nice report, JD! Glad to hear the fishing is good so close to shore! By the way, cant see much of it, but looks like a nice boat you are on there.

We have only gone groundfishing a couple times this summer but both times things looked real good. We just find the herring and start jigging and it has worked great both times. The first time was when I posted the herring pics, but the second time was the other day (on Jeffreys) and we got into the big pollock, real big ones, and while we only had a few minutes to fish before we had to take off, it looked real good.

Amazing what a lack of midwater trawlers can do.

Things have looked good in the bait department all over the inshore, so it does not suprise me.

We were fishing in 250' to 300' of water and fish were spitting up herring had one cod come up with its belly so full and a herring tail sticking out of its mouth thought of putting on the hook but the dogs were so thick I dont think it would of made it to bottom

Guilty as charged Tom.....frown face....head lowered......

And it was the good weather that gave it away, huh?

Or was it that I was actually smiling on the boat at the same time it was sunny out....LOL
