    water pumps???

anyone know anything about water/macerator pumps??? i run a 26 albemarle CC and the two washdown (fresh and raw water) pumps need to be replaced the forward bildge needs to be replaced and the macerator pump needs to be replaced. the guy doing the work for me told me that the washdown pumps are a couple hundered like 250-300 and the macerator pump would be more also said the bildge would be like 150. the bildge sounds about right but those other pumps seem real expensive. any suggestions on types/sizes of pumps i'd need for my boat? or are things like that boat specific? just looking to not get taken advantage of here and want to know what i'm getting into before i start to just carelessly throw money around cuz if i can buy them cheaper i will and just have him install them.

yup, sounds about right, wash down pumps can be more money, depends on the gph and all other factors like mounting and so on, some may be sanitary for drinking which would be more money. they are not hard to replace, couple screws and however the hose is attached along with a couple simple 12v wires

the flip side of the quote is that labor to install any of those three is easily 2 hours if you have easy access, couple be 4-5 *per pump* if its in a tight space.

I know as an example my boat takes 2 hr's for a macerator; 3 for the aft bilge and at least 5-6 for the washdown due to all the other stuff I have to tear out 1st.

thanks for the replies guys that helps a lot.....backman are those similar to what you run on your boat? you run a 28 carolina classic similar hull just beefed up from mine? those prices are a hell of a lot better than what i was quoted from the guy doing the work. the pumps are pretty easy to get to, take the fish box outta the deck and lay down in the hold and they are right there can reach them in two seconds but i don't know how long it takes to undo them and hook them back up....i'm sure he'll let me know though

just a bit beefed up but more or less the same boat.

All pumps are 2 wires; 2 hoses; 4 screws. Sounds like a piece of cake; doesn't it

yeah sorry I forgot about the space issue, you could really save some money, just look at it yourself and maybe attempt it, i mean if you get sick and frustrated you have at least done half the labor time. like backman said its a hose in then out, mounting bolts and a few wires. are you just some1 that would rather pay for the service? if so go ahead, just dont buy the pump he says to buy and at his price, buy the pump before hand, look at the labels you have now and if you want stronger ones then do it.

do you have a picture of your boat iv been looking for a center console and to get rid of my 25 sailfish.

I highly recommend trying to do it on your own. Replacing pumps is real easy. Just change over what already exists. Little more complicated if you have to start from scratch and install switches. Being able to do as much as possible on your own will help if you offshore if something breaks.

I agree. I just removed the live well pump and the small faucet pump in the boat today and will be replacing them tomorrow once the shop opens. It is a simple task like Salt Dog said. When you how to take apart, it is just that easy to put it back. it saves you money and it feels good to knowing your way around the boat.
