Viking Fleet Quincy, MA-EXCELLENT FISHING ON STELLWAGEN 4/18/2010
Sunday April 18 2010 -
Captain Steven Jr reports an awesome day of fishing today from Quincy! We started out with a good steady pick of the larger market size cod in the morning and worked on them until things slowed down. By then, some anglers already caught thier cod limits! Once things slowed down, we went off searching around and stopped on a good show of life and tried a drift. This turned into LOCK AND LOAD drop to the bottom and reel action with double headers all over the boat. It was a mix of cod and pollack, with some haddock mixed in! This bite lasted for 2 hours until every tote, bag, cooler, basket and anything else was FULL and overflowing! The pollack were in the 8-10 lb range with some bigger ones caught, and the cod ranged from shorts to large market size. Towards the end, some guys took the jellyworms off thier teasers because their arms were so sore from reeling in double headers, and STILL caught double headers ... one on the jig and one on a bare hook! Jigs were the ticket all day again today. We ended up with our full boat limit of cod, a couple hundred pollack, and a mess of haddock. Justin Carlson from the Sunbeam Express in Niatic, CT took first on the cod pool with a 14 pounder, and he also tied for first in the haddock pool! Mike Banduric had the tied haddock, both fish were 6 lbs.We will be sailing tomorrow, so come on down!

What a day. Dropped more than I care to say. I would have filled three totes rather than two. The crew was working the whole day. 29 people aboard and no one was disapointed.

Great day on the water. That pollack was a cow. I never noticed anyone else taking a picture. Thanks. Nothing like fishing with a full service kitchen on board. Fried Haddock on the steam home. MMMM!!!

Thanks Viking crew
Sunday was as good as it gets. No matter how good
the bite is off Montauk, you'll never get a mixed bag lock and load
like we had Sunday. After winning both pools Justin has convinced
his mother we need to go back tomorrow. With the perfect
forecast, even she is coming. See Ya tomorrow.
